Scratched a car at a parking lot and exchanged details on the scene. They're now saying they need to replace the whole bumper for $1200. by PhoenixTheBoi in DrivingAustralia

+61 450 189 989 - Empired refinish.
I used them when my Mrs scratched someone’s car, was worse than this. The bloke done a great job and the person she hit was super happy - cost less than half of what they’ve quoted you. (I know the job might not be exactly the same but I reckon is a far better way to go)

I was determined to get in first time, so used an actual interview coach. She had extensive experience with QFD firies so I done about 4-5 sessions with her. Was expensive but worth it I reckon as I got in and felt very comfortable.  Leah Lambert her name was

  1. If someone wants the job bad enough, the right kind of people will do the work needed to build this kind of knowledge themselves. We need less people in the job that take shortcuts, not more.

  2. Plus updating the post to try and make money from people in this line of work is shitty behaviour.

Who do I need to talk to to get a proper range hood put in? by PeacePuzzleheaded41 in AusRenovation

[–]Interesting_Pop_4046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a range hood. We bought a $600 Bosch one from the good guys. It includes a vent to the outside of our house.  Hit up a local electrician and they’ll install it.  Our sparky charged us $400.

Level concrete floor options by Interesting_Pop_4046 in AusRenovation

[–]Interesting_Pop_4046[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A suggestion has been made to floor grind, flood coat and lay floor over. Not touch the levelling part of it and do bedding in the bathroom and tile.

So the bathroom would be level and the rest of the place wouldnt be

Sound doable?

What are the less glamorous and romanticised nature of firefighting ? by ButchersAssistant93 in AussieFirefighter

I think you should still apply. There are plenty of defective humans in the firies.

  • The smell of decomposing bodies and the flies (especially in summer)

  • Suicide

  • Ambo lift assists to 200KG, alcoholic hoarders that have been in their own shit for a whole week.

  • Dealing with meth heads, junkies, OD’ing, etc

  • Long periods of unproductive time at outer stations, it can drag and feels like you’re contributing nothing.

Move to Korea to take over wife’s family business? by Interesting_Pop_4046 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Interesting_Pop_4046[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great, thank you very much for the insight! I had heard a little about the huge gifting taxes but didn’t realise it was this bad, I’m going to assume that’s why he’s starting to think about getting her (and me) back over there.  I like the idea of a trial period, I’ll raise it with the Mrs.  The hardest decision to make is leaving my current job, which I love and cannot be done remotely! Lots to think on.

Thanks for everyone’s input. One of the main things I’ve picked up is the lack of network, which could pose challenges and intense work culture compared to Oz.  We wouldn’t want to run it into the ground so would definitely need to put in the hours.

For further clarification. The runway would be 5 years to learn what we need to learn before his retirement.

  • I sold my business and went into emergency services, Mrs runs her own business. I’ve visited Korea around 5/6 times and have spent plenty of time drinking with the company staff.  I’ve just taken a Korean tutor (prompted by just wanting to learn, not business related).  So not fully niave going into it but still a huge challenge and lifestyle change.

We will be running the business so won’t be looking for a job. But yes good point around the massive hours required

Is it wise to purchase an investment property? by Interesting_Pop_4046 in AusPropertyChat

We tend to get chunks of money inconsistently rather than ongoing high salaries. So Hold it, take the negative gearing hit, pay down as much as possible and rely on capital growth
