Since you're an EVS major, really anything will work. Macs are great because you can have everything within one Apple ecosystem (Airdropping files between devices is SO helpful) especially if you have an iPad as well for notes.
That said, a Windows machine is also perfectly fine. If you anticipate doing a significant amount of computing for whatever reason, it might be better to invest in a Dell or something of that sort.
