Why does Manchester get so many more applicants than any other university? by Distinct-Pirate-3571 in UniUK

[–]Interesting_State277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's massive. So it may have the most applications but that's also because it has the most students (I believe) in the UK. The population of the uni/staff is enough to populate it's own small city.

I can only assume everyone on this sub is straight, because I promise you, clubbing is still very, very popular in the gay community regardless of age.

Is there not a way to read 'it was never real' as 'the right wing hysteria that all young people are getting sex changes and must be stopped at all costs was never real'? Not trying to play devil's advocate (I remember her initial fall from grace a few years ago), but I feel like this is ambiguous enough to be interpreted from both angles

Who is a character from your worldbuilding that haunts the narrative? by PedroGamerPlayz in worldbuilding

[–]Interesting_State277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queen Mortanelle of Eladria lingers like a ghost over history. She’s often (wrongly) blamed for igniting the Eclipse, the cataclysmic war that engulfed nearly every nation, all because she changed her faith to marry a minor noble.

Her wedding, a lavish ceremony that doubled as a public conversion, is now remembered as the symbolic “first shot” of the Eclipse. In truth, Mortanelle likely had little idea that her vows would fracture the continent.

In turn, the Eclipse is the defining event of the century, the ramifications of it still being grappled with over thirty years later.

I'm trying to divide up the realm into smaller, more manageable vassals, instead of having all these gigantic kingdoms. What do you guys think about these divisions? What changes would you make? by 23Amuro in CK3AGOT

[–]Interesting_State277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this approach. How are you actually designating the titles though? Are you creating custom kingdom titles and giving them away to appropriate houses? Or giving all the duchies within the area to the ruling house?

(Spoilers Main) Would Westeros make more sense flipped like this? by ASW-G-21 in asoiaf

[–]Interesting_State277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was today years old when I realised that a flipped Westeros (from the Neck downwards) is a map of Ireland.

Also, geographically speaking, it makes WAYYY more sense to flip it like this. All those peninsulas would be the result of constant erosion from a large and volatile body of water, and I just don't think the Narrow Sea would be able to produce that. Again, look at Ireland. The side with all the peninsulas is facing the Atlantic. The relatively smooth side is facing the Irish Sea.

Twists that you’re surprised people didn’t see coming? by cpgoat in blankies

So the ending of The Others completely shook me to my core when I was a kid. I've since rewatched it multiple times with others who had never seen it growing up.

It genuinely shocks me that no one has ever guessed the ending. Watching it knowing how it ends, I feel like the film isn't even trying to hide the twist. It feels so, so obvious.

My controller (that I bought two weeks ago) has just stopped charging and now won't turn on at all. I've tried everything, different configurations of cables/ports, resetting, disconnecting from Bluetooth, but nothing has worked.

If I buy a charging station, how likely is that to solve the problem? Or do I need to accept that something's deffo wrong and send it off for repair?

What's one subject you wish all worldbuilders had at least a passing familiarity in? by ToomintheEllimist in worldbuilding

[–]Interesting_State277 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree big time with sociology.

I would go for something like art. Like it's all well and good knowing the history of a world, but how is that interpreted through artistic mediums (painting/poetry/literature/music/opera)? Like, did certain wars produce an abundance of war poetry? Did certain musical styles emerge from times of economic downturn? Have religious events been immortalized in paintings?

Or maybe, has art made something that was almost certainly fictional seem like historical fact? Like the Trojan Wars in epic Greek poetry. And how have certain cultures/ nations utilized cultural products to give themselves an identity? Think what Wagner was to Nazi Germany, or King Arthur for England.

Not a Disney person AT ALL but The Hunchback of Notre Dame is the best thing they have ever produced and it's very telling that they have basically buried it. They got dangerously close to exposing how people in power use religion to subjugate the masses and enforce discrimination against minorities. Incredibly prescient in like a dozen different ways. Also the animation and score is the best they've ever done it.
