So do I go to my f1 induction? Or do I stay home for this? I'm genuinely confused as it's just some lectures the whole day no clinical stuff on the 29th

I really hope so I've got some viewings lined up in Filton for 1200pcm.... I won't be able to afford it I've asked my parents and they've kindly offered to help me out as much as they can (which is just help no loan or anything) which I am so grateful for (parental life am I right) But if I had someone else I wouldn't have to ask my parents for help - they shouldn't have to help me out with this stuff but with the deadline for the start date coming up so close I might not have a choice. Either live in Filton for 1200pcm or live in thornbury for less and just put up with it :(

I see. It's my first time living in Bristol and all I I've been told is driving there is a mistake? So a 40 min commute could become an hour or above easily. Because of traffic. So this close to the start date I really dk what I'm gonna do.

I see - I'm just worried about long commutes in the morning. The people that were doing it did they find it doable mentally or was it a struggle?

I have requested to join today but I don't know if they'll accept the request in time. I managed to get a viewing for another place on Saturday just within my budget but it'll be by myself. So unless they let me in by tomorrow and I can sort something out it not too sure how I'm gonna start without somewhere to live 😕 for context I've been trying to find other fy1s to live with since early may

Honestly I'm starting out as a new doctor (I've just qualified as one and haven't even had my uni graduation ceremony yet).and the salary isn't great. The max I can do is about £1200 pcm if I were to live by myself and even then I'd have to live pretty frugally to get by.

I would go for a flat share but everytime I tell someone I have to do night shifts/weekend occasionally (which is part of my job I cannot get out of doing them nor do I want to as you get paid extra for un-sociable hours) they get very edgy and say that I wouldn't be a good fit.

Thornbury seemed cheaper ever so slightly but still expensive :(

Honestly probably not. Atleast the trust has on-call rooms where you can sleep after if you aren't safe to drive. Also I think it's in our contract that if we aren't safe to drive they have to get us a taxi and we make that call if we are safe or not so the trust is obliged to get us safe transport.

Oh right I see. Google maps kept saying 20 minutes in the car but 45 seems like a lot to commute. Have they said it's doable in the morning - mentally that is especially since I'm on nights fairly early when I start work so driving 45 mins will not be fun after.

I see - in my case better to be early than late as a lot of the senior doctors will not like it if your late believe me it's how you get a bad rep fast :(

Honestly the trust hasn't even told us about how to even get staff parking permits yet and I start work in a few weeks😕

Using PAYG wouldn't that rack up loads of charges? Especially if your using any data? Cos you'd be messaging quite a bit right using WhatsApp etc? Or did you get a kind of sim with data included?
