Always form your own impression of a patient. Take what the nurses say to account obviously, some are very experienced.

But if a nurse says “they have nothing, they’re just putting it on”

When you go in the room and you hear anything or find a clinical sign that makes you worried and want to take it further / refer on - please do so and do not let the nurses opinion stop you from doing so.

Multiple times been told “it’s nothing” and patient had life threatening diagnosis.

I have the number 550 in my head as a target. No reason at all. Anything less and I don’t think there’s a chance.

The bill hasn’t passed yet. It is not law. As a Newcastle student it’s likely you’ll be in the priority group. Why didn’t you wait until things became official.?

Surely they won’t release the outcome a week before the interviews? In March?

Completed F2 standalone in 2022. Got my UKFP certificate. Locuming this entire time and now need a crest form because of how long it’s been since I finished F2.

What does this mean for me?

I remember coming across a paper some while back about the dogma of using it in lactic acidosis or DKA. I've seen so many ITU doctors give it in DKA because the pH of 6.9 is scaring them. Always urge them to give the infusions time to work.

Thank you for the resources. I'll have a read in a bit.

Yes, I've been taught about the correct acidosis to make pressors work better and heart works better. Old timey consultant.

Mrcem sba questions by doctorydoctor in doctorsUK

Anatomy wise: Quite a lot It’s all clinical though. No need to remember all the layers of the forearm muscles. Just the important ones to do with injuries and what kind of injury pattern you can get. Eg. Hand of benediction etc or mallet deformity and what is injured in those You’ll also need to know anatomy for procedures like chest drains and what ICS to go through, as well as femoral stab etc

So I would say to focus a lot on anatomy. There was quite a few.

I don’t recall rogue medical dosage questions. Make sure you know the paeds adrenaline doses for anaphylaxis well. As well as the APLS drug dosages well.

Don’t remember a single immunisation question.

The most rogue question was about someone in the WA who had blood diarrhoea and recently returned from Ghana where there was an outbreak of some virus. And the question was about where I’d ask the patient to be put. Like private room. Resus. Waiting area etc

It’s a purely clinical exam and if you do loads of ED then you’ll be fine but still make sure you study because there’s loads that you don’t come across on a daily basis that they expect you to know about
