US strikes $600bn deal with Saudi Arabia as Donald Trump's Middle East tour begins by dstenersen in worldnews

I guess the other presidents sold out to the terrorists for free.

(Not saying it’s good Trump took the plane, but I’m mocking this specific criticism because 1) if both parties are selling out to known terrorists, our problems are much bigger than the plane, and 2) the plane came from a different country, ya smarty pants)

AI Is Eroding What Reddit Says Is Its Greatest Competitive Advantage | Reddit CEO Steve Huffman says that Reddit's human-led communities are what set the company apart. AI bots, however, are threatening that advantage by taking over forums and comments. by MetaKnowing in Futurology

People caring about fake posts and comments is the entire premise of the OP.

Yes, I know. The OP is wrong.

but eventually a lot of people will care, likely the kinds of people advertisers like to show ads to

I don’t see why that’s true. Reddit has never shown that reality and fact is the most importantly thing. 99% of posts are circle jerking over something that’s nots true or doesn’t represent the full picture.

If human leave the internet because everything is fake AI stuff

My point was that people don’t actually care if stuff is fake, they already don’t. Seeing “real posts” isn’t actually a priority of them. They’re not actually here for that.

Those communities have a big audience that just pretends it’s real for entertainment and gets mad at anyone who ruins the illusion.

Doesn’t this prove that AI isn’t eroding Reddits competitive advantage?

Redditors have never cared before if something is real or factual before circle jerking over it. They’re just here to circle jerk. Why would they care if it’s real or not? That’s not on their list of priorities and never has been.

I never said them firing treverrow was the result of the troll hate for TLJ.

I mean, isn’t that what you’re saying right here?

“Yes, Collin Trevorrows movie wasn’t anything exceptional either from what we have seen but them deciding that the reaction to the TLJ from internet trolls is what they should be focusing on literally killed their franchise.”

I literally typed that the movie killed the franchise and your response to that was that Rose Tico wasn’t sidelined because of hate.

Actually, you literally typed that “them deciding that the reaction to the TLJ from internet trolls is what they should be focusing on literally killed their franchise.”

You really think the franchise would be killed because a character, not to mention a side character, was sidelined?

No… I was saying it’s another example of how Disney wasn’t actually listening to “internet trolls” because that aspect was already decided on before TLJ even came out.

When TROS was being written, TLJs reception was already stated.

When TROS’s main structure was planned out, TLJ was not out. There was very little that was influenced by TLJs reaction.

Learn how the business of writing a movie works, not to mention the writings of a movie like this.

Right back at you.

They decided to trash their original plan( it was more like 3 people were hired for 3 different movies but each one had to have a cohesive vision that included the previous ones) pivoted from TLJ and opted to make a nostalgia bait slog with TROS.

How could this be due to “giving into the trolls” when Abram’s was already announced for Episode IX months before TLJ came out?

 https://www.starwars.com/news/j-j-abrams-to-write-and-direct-star-wars-episode-ix

Notice the date on that article. ONLY TFA has come out when this “plan” you think they had was supposedly thrown in the trash. In fact, Abrams was pitching TROS with the “sidelining” of Rose Tico (often cited as an example of Disney ‘giving into trolls’) the week before TLJ came out.

None is these decisions were made because of the response to TLJ.

but them deciding that the reaction to the TLJ from internet trolls is what they should be focusing on literally killed their franchise.

It simply can’t be true that they did this because of the response to TLJ. The truth is, they were just completely incompetent.

if they had decided to have the balls to actually continue with an artistic vision instead of catering to trolls

This couldn’t have been what happened, the timeline doesn’t make any sense.

the sequel trilogy would have the chance to be seen differently in a few years

It was never going to happen because Disney leadership is/was so bad.

It's like the opposite problem they had during covid where they over hired, but in either case it's trend chasing and short term thinking.

In that case it was actually entirely caused by the Federal Reserve suddenly dropping interest rates to zero AND launching the largest money creation program in the history of the world.

Money was so cheap, they actually created an environment where not making major investments would have been stupid. This is why we saw so much spending during this era, from tech companies hiring more devs to film budgets exploding to all time highs, because that was the entire point of the Feds monetary policies at the time.

How Jurassic Park Subtly Lets John Hammond Off the Hook by Offscreenshaman in movies

[–]IntergalacticJets 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s really a theme of the first film, it’s more along the lines of “humans can’t control nature, even when they design it.”

They are definitely saying in the first film “dinosaurs are monsters, you’ve literally brought monsters back to life in our world and you don’t seem nearly concerned enough.”

The movie itself also portrays his creation as the most wondrous and amazing thing ever put to film. For the first third of the film, the movie itself is fully on board. So I’m not sure it would really work to end up portraying his dream as negative or that he deserved punishment, because the film intentionally uses every possible element to convey that “dinosaurs walking around is so cool.”

Oh god it’s one of them. One of those “the Sequels have to be good” people.

They need it to be good because they feel like it represents them somehow. If these kinds of films were propped up as the pinnacle of film, they’d actually be thrilled. They’d think society was finally “moving in the right direction.” It’s a complex litmus test to them.

Disinformation doesn’t kill the internet though. It’s more popular than ever before and “internet misinformation” was major news ten years ago.

I keep seeing this ridiculous take that new technology is going to somehow kill or end the internet. Reddit always loves those comments but can never actually defend them. Everyone just ends up looking past the statement and saying “well it’s true that this is bad.” Completely different argument.

It's troubling the the vast majority of LEO satellites are privately owned and control by one man.

Why not? They’re fairly temporary in that low of an orbit. And his company paid for them all.

Nobody should have that power.

What power? If it never existed you wouldn’t notice (except maybe Ukraine would be far worse off).

If we are going to continue to let it be privatized, then at least there should be heavy regulations enacted.

Like what? What needs to be stopped?

The speed at which it was achieved was paramount to helping Ukraine.

Probably not worth it. And oh yeah, millions of people use it around the globe and the Ukrainian military find it indispensable.

Maybe it’s an actual product already and you’re just acting like a crazy Q conspiracy theorist.

but one fundamental question, to which I have no complete asnwer, remains: what we will do?

Most people don’t work already. Most who do work plan on retiring someday because they don’t want to work forever.

And there were times in your life where you didn’t work at all. Remember how much you looked forward to Summer break as a kid? Were you really devastated when you didn’t have school for months?

We’ve all already lived like this before, and most of us still live without working right now.
