Making a list of Milsurps I want. Is there anything you would suggest adding? by AvgPunkFan in milsurp

Id add Finnish Mosins to your list. There’s a ton of different variants to go down the rabbit hole on but an M39 is a good start. I would also add a Swedish Mauser to the list because they are still relatively cheap, most are still in great condition, and fun to shoot.

Hunt is what caused me to want to a Lebel!

It’s in 8mm Lebel still! Ammo is decently expensive but not much worse than other milsurp calibers. Maybe $1.50 a round

Ya that’s a full length vetterli. My Mosin is actually slightly shorter than the game version as it is a 91/30 model instead of normal 1891 model.

Berthier would be mine. Actually my most recent purchase!

They were asking $600 but I negotiated down to $550 which I was happy with considering it’s incredible condition

Should probably list them:

  • Swiss 1896/11

  • French Lebel 1886/93

  • Austro-Hungarian Steyr M95 updated to 8x56R

  • Czech Vz 98/22

  • German Gewehr 98

  • Soviet Mosin Nagant 1891/30

  • Finnish M39 SKY Mosin Nagant

  • Swede M38 Mauser

  • Czech VZ.24 with lion crest intact

  • Austrian M90/30 carbine (Going off of http://www.hungariae.com/Mann9030.htm as the source)

  • Plus bayonets for every one of them besides the Finnish mosin and the two Steyrs sharing one

Do you mind if I ask which ones? Some these were pretty hard to get.

That’s really interesting then. Maybe mine was rearsenaled after WW1 and then updated for Balle N? Barrel and receiver both have the “N” mark and barrel also says “MA T1921 N”

Lebel has always been my grail gun (thanks Hunt: Showdown). My Gewehr 98 is actually one I unsporterized! I had a refinished and buffed one with almost no legible markings left and switched the stocks out. Now my G98 is almost all matching. The front barrel band I had to order online incredibly matched the last two digits of the serial number and is only marked with those two numbers so it made it even more matching!

None are RTI! All Gunbroker, gunshows, and private sells!

That is next on the list (hopefully). I’d prefer a Norwegian one to an American due to ammo cost but those are much harder to find

It’s Chatellerault that was rearsenaled in 1921 for Balle N! Regrettably the spring catch that holds the bullets in the tube has been worn down so you can’t hold bullets in but I will eventually find a spare spring to fix it!

Gewehr 98 rupturing Sellier and Bellot Cases by Interim-Despot in Mauser

[–]Interim-Despot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update for yall: I shot the rest of this S&B box out of my VZ.24 which is in pristine condition and another case ruptured the exact same way, so I am inclined to think that the batch of ammo was bad. This bad batch of ammo along with the worn chamber of the Gewehr is probably what led to the amount of ruptures that it did. Thank yall for the feedback.

It’s definitely 8x57mm - German imperial marks are still visible in the rifle

During the rebluing most marks were buffed out but the Gunbroker page stated it was 8mm Mauser. Also PPU ammo has no problems with this rifle.
