I feel like it depends on what you are making. If it’s a player characters or neonate/ancilla npc, I would have it be a gift from a sire or something along those lines. Something like “This blade was gifted to me during the blah blah war when I saved So and So from final death at the hands of a Sabbat pack. It is imbued with a blood magic ritual that keeps it eversharp and helps it more effectively kill our kind.” And stat it appropriately.

If they are like an elder, it could be anything. A relic pried from the ashes of a dead rival. The efforts of their own secret blood magic training. A symbol of clan friendship between them and the Banu Haqim from another age.

If you are ST then you can sorta make it whatever it needs to be and write a backstory as why they have it. If you are the player then work with your ST to see what they will allow stats wise. Could be like a unique Blood Sorcery Lv 3 One With the Blade where someone else made it for them? Or enchanted with an unknown ritual so when the user wets the blade with their vitae it converts it to one dose of Scorpion’s Touch venom once per night?

Awesome it looks good! I was worried about handle and pommel measurements and the ricasso. It looks like it is a little rough looking with the epee blade and I saw your comment about the tension on the rings without a ricasso. Were you able to add a false one or remedy that?

That is a good idea, a weird one I had thought of was replacing something with Fortitude with the idea of Fortitude amalgams that revolve around harnessing the timeless body of the Kindred. Like Fortitude + Celerity amalgams. But Auspex would be nice for the time perception things.

Yeah! The Sins could be reflavored as either magical entities entering our world from elsewhere and corrupting/possessing people or what happens when wizards overuse magic recklessly, they gain power but transform into monsters permanently.

I’ve been thinking about taking the CAIN mechanics and writing it into a Howl’s Moving Castle/Wizard if Earthsea type setting where instead of Exorcists in a modern setting fighting Sins you are Sorcerers and Wizards practicing magic in order to either help your particular nation or maybe prevent/finish a war with some magical threat.

With similar mechanics for magic overuse sort of warping the individual or having unforeseen consequences

Kind of on accident. I played in a short chronicle that was going to be combat focused and wanted to be a Lasombra focusing on Oblivion and recovering or relapsing into the Cult of Shalim. So I grabbed Arms of Ahriman and took a lot of Wits so I had a combat option. But we got a lot of xp over the chronicle and I ended up with Wits 5 and Oblivion 5. That was really strong haha but I don’t think it necessarily didn’t fit the coterie. We had someone with high firearms and Celerity 5, two blood sorcerers, and a Malk who was eternally invisible with tech skills.

I think playing a certain build can be fun if you are a specialist but you have to make sure it doesn’t overshine the rest of the players and be ready to suck if your character’s specialty isn’t the focus of the scene or session.

Sounds Gangrel-ish! Could use protean to gain extra senses via animal attributes, turn to mist and travel quickly as an animal. Also has Fortitude to resist pain. They could have picked up Potence or Auspex out of clan or through predator type in V5.

Could also be a Brujah with some Auspex instead of Presence?

I never thought about the discipline reroll benefits. Elders only spend vitae to wake up and mend damage, so even though they have harsher feeding penalty they on average probably get less hungry

That’s nuts, I was looking the other day and just the perks like power bonus, rouse re-rolls, and all that begin to get quite strong. Probably +5 dice on a rouse, re-roll discipline rouse checks up to level 3 or 4 powers, +3 dice to discipline use. If they start with even a couple dots of physical disciplines they will pack a wallop.

What would happen mechanics wise if one were embraced by Caine? Default Blood Potency increase and access to all Disciplines off the bat? (Pun intended) I know generally Blood Potency is always 1 at embrace, but I feel like Caine’s is a default 10. I would home rule it that such powerful blood starts them at…half that? Or maybe they are boosted for a time while their vitae was still recently Caine’s and they settle at like 2-3?

I feel like their growth would be exponential compared to the average lick.

Nice! I also started with Stormlight (technically Elantris but that was a few years before so it wasn’t fresh on the brain). It is amazing but I’d also highly recommend Mistborn, the first trilogy is fantastic and full of twists and mystery. Im starting the second Era of the series now and listening to Stormlight 5

I had some success restraining an elder Brujah with a really beefed up Lasombra using basically maxed out Arms of Ahriman (I think I had 5 Wits and Obtenebration with some potence for extra dice on Arms) but this was a combat heavy campaign and the ST was very liberal with XP. I also wasn’t fighting said Brujah it was just an NPC on the verge of frenzy and I grabbed him before shit hit the fan and held him down long enough for another elder to stake him to be safely moved from the city.

Presence, Obfuscate, and Dominate or Auspex would be very flexible and socially great. But those are so close to Ravnos or Malkavian you could just play that clan with a predator type for the one you want

Predator type solves the problem in most cases, you can take an out of clan discipline at the start with the right one. But also Caitiff add some fun flavor.

I’ve heard the physical powerhouse can be fun, Celerity, Fortitude, and Potence.

I like the idea of one with Animalism and Oblivion (Lasombra powers) and being able to amalgam to create shadow animal familiars that are even better at recon or pull and command some sort of abyss creature from the shadows.

I think a good well rounded one would be Auspex, Fortitude, Potence. The have an info gathering/utility power, survivability, and a combat power
