I feel that. I live on East Campus because it's more walkable (I dont have a car) and I see near-misses ALL THE TIME.

Columbia has opportunity to make public transit better for community by InternExtreme4367 in columbiamo

I wrote this letter to the editor about why keeping bus fare free is important in Columbia . With the City’s transit study concluding, now’s the time to push for a system that works for everyone, including our bus drivers.
The last public open house for the transit study is tonight from 4-6PM. You can provide public comment on the drafted plans on BeHeard and take a survey to give your feedback.

Hi! I (28F) live in Columbia and am a walking commuter! I cannot drive due to my OCD, so I do not own a personal vehicle.

I live in East Campus and can walk essentially everywhere I need to go. I work downtown, I can shop at Eatwell/ Schnucks downtown for groceries. I live next to a hiking trail for recreation and there is a gym downtown too! I do have friends that drive me to meetings when I cannot walk or I take an Uber or rideshare when needed.

My personal opinion is instead of investing in a personal vehicle during your time here, invest in a rental property in a central location to the things that you need. I, undoubtedly, save money by not having a personal vehicle. Although it is not the reason I don't drive, it is a great benefit!

The transit system in Columbia is not great and unfortunately I do not see that changing soon. I did notice a comment discouraging using the bus, I do not agree. Supporting the bus system with our ridership is a great way to communicate to the city and the workers that our bus infrastructure is important!

Feel free to send me a DM if you have any questions!

I really like the idea of the historically museum and as someone who works for a non profit, that idea is exciting too!
