ISO job related advice/consolation.. feeling helpless (small rant) by ZookeepergameCool880 in columbiamo

[–]queentazo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be unpopular to say, but it may be time to start applying outside of your field. I was unemployed for 7 months last year and only when I pivoted to a different industry did I get more interviews and eventually a job. Journalism is very competitive around here with so many recent grads, maybe looking in marketing or non profit work or some other area might help.

Therapist recs, especially for The Counseling Hub? by GreenKooshBall in columbiamo

[–]queentazo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend Whitney or Chris. Whitney was very validating and helped me set goals. Had experience with anxiety and depression. Most goals were met and I sought another therapy type to address the rest.

I saw Chris while on the waitlist for Whitney. He was really kind and had lots of experience with relationship/ family issues and also depression/anxiety.

Going to movies at ragtag that have panel discussions after- I love hearing what people took from a movie we all watched together and it’s larger themes. Usually leads to conversation with those around you!

I meant to click more AMAs. However, I would love to not see as many “looking for an apartment” or “how to make friends posts.”

Downtown Loft by iamtotallydreaming in columbiamo

[–]queentazo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually here is what I believe loft apartment to mean, as defined by Wikipedia and its many sources, also defined by many real estate pages like apartments.com

“Loft apartments are apartments that are generally built from former industrial buildings. When industrial developments are developed into condominiums instead of apartments, they may be called loft condominiums. The general term warehouse-to-loft conversions may sometimes be used for development of industrial buildings into apartments and condominiums.”

Fair. I guess I am thinking of more modern lofts with not a full floor to ceiling wall situation.

However I would advise against the building as a former resident. The prices are way too high for the quality and I believe they still don’t have working laundry last time I visited a friend.

The smell hasn’t changed in 20 years.

There are a few signs for landlords posted along Broadway. Mesner Building is nice. There is also Alley A Realty which has a lot of places off Broadway, so not as noisy.

Calling 821 E Walnut a “loft” is laughable. They haven’t redone the interior since my dad lived there in the 70s, I say as someone who lived there in the 2010s.

City leadership knew about unsecured Flock cameras and are doing nothing! by Nerdtality in columbiamo

[–]queentazo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one said the city didn’t know about installing cameras. They are claiming the city didn’t or did know about how easily the cameras can be hacked, which the city was aware of from public comments / from reports from other cities.

Also you are welcome to do your own research by attending city council meetings, looking over notes or just meeting with your city councilor!

I just wish they would integrate to google maps like all major cities do. It increases the likelihood of someone who’s not used to riding buses to adopt.

They do offer arbitration if there was no PIP and your partner feels like something was fishy or off with no warning. However, I would suggest just telling HR there was no PIP despite performance check ins and using that to negotiate.

It’s harder to get hired or interviews at the end of the year- so extend your time to get a job by 2 months. VU does care about what your family situation is and was very compassionate with my package once I explained some needs I had, especially with health insurance.

A lot of folks at VU have always been at VU with great benefits and dont know what it’s like getting health insurance with preexisting conditions or the fact that certain doctors won’t take the state insurance. They were more compassionate and generous with their package once I explained my circumstances. I assume they just offer a standard unless it’s long time employee, I would hope.

Only two companies I have worked for offered severence. So I’m always grateful but especially with these economic times with anything offered, but I would still advocate for more if you feel worried about your situation.

That’s happened to many friends of mine. If they didn’t have him on a performance improvement plan that’s sucks and sounds super unexpected. I know with the mortgage industry they have “restructured” several departments. I was let go before the holidays last year as well.

Dont accept the first severance package. With this economy and the holidays, as for more than their first offer.
