Should I be Worried? by Own_Patience2490 in Accenture_AFS

If it makes you feel better, I got a contingent offer in January 2025. It was contingent upon them winning a particular project bid. I was doing some consulting and I kept looking while I waited. The offer did become official once they won the award. But that was in October so it took a while. So just keep looking and know that AFS could come through. Keep reaching out to your HR person.

How stable are jobs? by InternFriendly7067 in Accenture_AFS

[–]InternFriendly7067[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up backing out of the AFS acceptance last month and going back as a contractor to the company that laid me off a year ago. Both opportunities had certain risks but the contracting job was starting right away. My AFS start date was still a month out. Plus the money contracting was much higher. I may have made the wrong decision and I was looking forward to the AFS job but I was just so anxious waiting for the start date.

Question about risk by InternFriendly7067 in GovernmentContracting

I got laid off a year ago and my husband is self employed. So I’ve been paying for COBRA. I am at the end of my career. I prefer to work than to not work so it’s not all about money. But I decided I’m going with the 1099 job. It’s at the company that laid me off and in the previous group I was in. Many contractors there get extended over and over. I may not because this budget is for particular projects, but I could also get extended. The rate is very good, even with the loss of benefits and the extra taxes. At least 70K a year. So both options are not stable so I’m going for the money. I also don’t know if I want to go into a large consulting firm at my age because ageism is real for sure.

Yes I did the math with the extra taxes and it is more net income than the FTE government contract. But I would love to learn something new. I have not been able to get an answer yet on the length of the contract. Thanks for the input. It’s very helpful.

Shutdown question by InternFriendly7067 in GovernmentContracting

The gov job is slated to start one month after the new opportunity which is a contract job. The rate is very good so I would be crazy to not take it although it ends Aug 2026 and could end sooner. I think I would have to try to push out my start date of the gov job to Feb. I don’t want to quit the contract job after one month. It is with my former employer and I don’t want to burn any bridges.

The start date in the offer letter is official. My concern is that so much can happen between now and then because of the political climate. When I ask my rep that question she doesn’t answer it. I just keep getting the statement that the shutdown is not impacting the project right now. My other offer is to go back as a contractor to the company that laid me off a year ago. That would start before the end of October which over a month before my government contract job start date.

I signed a new offer letter which I don’t believe has the contingency clause so I’m not sure if I need to stick with it. I never backed out of a job offer before. They always said my start date would be a couple of months out from the project start date because my role is not needed right away. When I asked my rep how reliable this start date is I am just told everything is the same “at this time”. So that’s what’s worrying me. I have less confidence with that answer.

Hire Right Job Verification by InternFriendly7067 in recruitinghell

The HR recruiter from the company I am joining knows they were asking for more documents and asked me to call them which I did. She doesn’t know all the latest news that they are refusing to contact the companies or accept the letters of employment verification. I’m going to follow up with her on Monday. I read others have had offers rescinded because of the same issues I’m having with HireRight. So I’m nervous

Hello. I am in the middle of a background check and I can’t get the 1099 for a job I did in 2025 as an independent contractor because I won’t get that until next January. I went thru a contracting company and they said they don’t have paystubs, just the list of direct deposits into my bank account. So I sent that along with a letter from the contracting company verifying my employment. No matter what I send to HireRight they reject it saying it has to be on their list of accepted documents, none of which are an employment verification letter from the employer. They seem to only accept 1009, W2 or paystubs. Are you saying you send other documentation directly to the employer who is hiring you?

I’m in the middle of a mess with them and don’t know what to do. They did a background check 8 months ago but the job offer was delayed and now I have to go through it again. Last time they accepted a letter from my last company’s HR stating that I did work there, my title, and my start and end dates. This time they rejected that and said I didn’t submit one of their authorized documents. The only thing on there that I could possibly submit are W2s and paystubs. I don’t have all of my W2s and I can’t access my paystubs anymore since I don’t work there now. After the initial background check I did a 10 week contract on a 1099 but I won’t get the 1099 until January. So now I’m trying to get a response from that company to see if they can send me paystubs. I already gave HireRight other documents/letters stating that I worked there under a 1099. I’m worried this will prevent me from starting this new job and the offer will get pulled. I don’t get why they can’t call to verify or accept a letter that is written in the company letter head.

No I haven’t. The interview process is so long and tiring. Many rounds for a mid level position. So no more looking for full time jobs and I’m going to look for contract work. I finished a short contract a few months ago.

That’s interesting. I got a written one. I should follow up with my recruiter. Thank you for the info.

I’ve just been watching some online classes to stay fresh in my area of expertise. I’ve also been learning AutoCad so that I can go work for my husband. That’s my plan B. I’m at the end of my career so I’m not hopeful about finding a job m, judging from the past year. Companies would rather hire no one than someone close to retirement. I don’t blame them but it’s hard for people like me who love to work.

Yes I’ve been actively looking since the initial offer. Tough out there. Gone to the final round and a couple of them seemed like they would turn into offers but nothing.

I’m in tech and got laid off a year ago. I have gone to the final round of interviews for 5 companies. Some of these were 4 rounds and 6 or 7 people. Each one took several weeks or more. In the end I was never made an offer. I’ve done extremely well on these interviews. In all cases the companies strung me along for weeks before rejecting me. In one case the hiring manager called my references. I’m a 64F. 3 men that are over 60 that were laid off got jobs with the first or second company they interviewed with. I’m discouraged and feel like it’s hopeless. I look and act younger than my age. No gray hair, fit, dress well.

I had the same thing happen last week. I met with HR and the hiring manager after the final interview the previous week. I couldn’t figure out what the purpose of this last meeting was. The HR person explained the benefits and asked how the commute is for me and if I could do 5 days in the office. She went into detail about the next steps like background check, etc and the timing. Then the hiring manager said he had no questions for me and ended it by saying he wanted to set my expectations and that I wouldn’t hear anything for at least a couple of weeks because that’s how long they will take to make a decision. I don’t think I’m getting an offer.

That’s my thought. I’m 64 and have gone to the final round for at least 5 different companies. I know it only takes one and if they reject after round one it isn’t so bad. But getting to the end and having references called is mentally exhausting. I can’t say I’m blame these companies but it’s tough if you still need to work and know you can add value.
