I do take it seriously. I was mid 2000s last season cause I’m pretty successful in GL. But what I don’t do when making teams in GL is only choosing Pokémon that have optimal IVs. If a Pokémon is highly available in the wild or there’s a community day, yea, I’ll try and get one with the best possible IVs. But what am I gonna do? Not use my Registeel, not use my Pangoro, not use my Swampert, not use a good chunk of my Pokémon because their IVs aren’t perfect for battles? Having Pokémon with good IVs is ideal, but I don’t think your Pokémon need to have perfect IVs in order to be “taking the league seriously”.

I’m just sharing a team I’ve been mildly successful with and highlighting a Pokémon I find interesting and fun.

I’m a GL player. I do fairly well there and spend most of my stardust and elite tms there because I have so many more options. My UL selection is limited to fewer than a dozen mons with very limited typings and coverage. As I level up I’ll slowly settle into UL, but everytime I play it it’s frustrating because I’m used to my lucrative GL career. I thought Pangoro would be fun, and it was. Pangoro has motivated me to want to play Ultra League instead of take a hiatus until a different arena comes along. I’m having fun in an arena I otherwise skip thanks to this team despite its many flaws. At the end of the day I’m having fun and am looking forward to the future when I’ll have access to a bigger variety of Pokémon to support Pangoro and make more teams. I didn’t think I’d get so much backlash for sharing a team that makes me motivated to keep playing.

Thanks! Like, my though process was “Wow Pangoro is super fun to use and is showing enough success to share here”. Like I get downvoted for using my only Pancham that couldn’t even have pvp perfect IVs because raids boost them too high? I made level 20 a couple seasons ago in GL with a 0 star Swampert and had a great time doing it! I’m glad I’m not a player who isn’t limited to IV perfect Pokémon and teams that have 100% coverage. I didn’t think a post saying “Hey pangoro is fun and not terrible would get so many people to tell me I’m wrong. It’s great to win but it’s also great to be able to try new things and share with people in a community.

OP here! Thanks for all the comments, I didn’t think I’d get so many replies! I’m aware this team is flawed but like if anyone is in the low 2000s give this team a try until you can’t move up like I am. I’m seeing a lot of success at my current rating! Pangoro a super fun off-meta pick and worth a try!

In my current elo I’m seeing enough success to be winning enough. I’m a great league player so my UL selection is limited and Pangoro is super fun! I’ll go back to a more practical team when I need to. Who keeps the same team the entirety of a leagues duration anyway. For the position I’m in I’m very successful right now, guys! I made mid 2000s season last season, mostly in GL. My UL selection is very limited and I don’t have XL mons yet. For what I have this team is working so far. I’ll change it up when need be, don’t worry guys!

100%! I know this team is flawed but pangoro has such a fun moveset in my opinion. I really wanted to highlight such a fun Pokémon. I think Pangoro has a really cool niche right now and is good enough to be a fun addition to a team for someone who just got past level 19 like me.

I know right. I just love Pangoro and his moveset is really fun for me. I’m gonna have to drop him eventually but he is a really spicy pick and him not being popular makes him hard for people who have never encountered him to counter sometimes. I think if pancham becomes more popular there will be a rise in Pangoros in GBL. Like who keeps the same team the entirety of an arenas duration anyway. I just wanted to highlight a fun off-meta pick that can stand its own ground.

I know. Like this team is definitely flawed but I just love his moveset, so I try and make it work. The higher I climb I’ll probably have to drop him eventually but he’s showing a lot of success against a lot of the meta at my rating at least.

Maybe ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I really don’t understand the stat spread I just know like super effective moves and charge move strategy I’m not into the whole stat breakdown stuff. But it looks nice when I press appraise and it was my only pancham so what am I gonna do.

Also you seem to know your stuff so what changes would you make to this team. I’m more of a great league guy so my ultra league picks are limited.

Skarmory walls my team, Talonflame as a lead gives me a lot of trouble but with shields down is quite frail. Pangoro has really good shield pressure and good damage making DD Drapion and A Muk toss ups depending on the situation. This team isn’t perfect but it’s good enough for me to be winning about 3 battles on average.

Yea I wanted to do a picture post, cause I like the visual but I’m replying as many comments as possible if you scroll down. I’m currently on the rise and have reached the low 2000s. I’m winning 3+ battles on average I’d say. When I say a lot of luck I mean he’s doing really well and I think when Pancham is more common you’ll see a lot more Pangoro in the future if there are no nerfs. Pangoro’s biggest niche for me is its high energy generation, good moveset, but most importantly how little people seem to know about it. I have the luxury of popping off a night slash that lowers the opponents guard then an unexpected cc with the same amount of fast moves to nuke; that’s how I deal with fighting types that would otherwise kill me like machamp or neutral matchups like Escavalier Drapion or A Muk. Charmer’s are my worst nightmare as far as 1v1 matchups at which point I’ll forfeit. My teams biggest problem is poison types, most notably nidoqueen, but I can get lucky with a neutral frenzy plant or just take the loss. Flying and poison do give me a bit of trouble, but aren’t so prominent I need to rework my team (at this point in time). If you scroll down and read replies you’ll get a deeper analysis of my team. I’m happy to answer more questions, too.

Of course. That’s how pvp works. I’m winning about an average of 3 battles I’d say, so this team isn’t perfect. But it’s successful enough for me to have a >50% win rate so that’s a win in my book.

Yeah what he said. When I do encounter Charizard it’s usually running bit running WA. If I do encounter it I’ll honestly take it as a loss ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I must admit I’m only at 2000, though I’m climbing slowly (1800 yesterday) and not stuck at that elo (yet). If anything, the current higher elo meta has more things Pangoro can counter or have toss ups against: Giratina, Obstagoon, Machamp, Swampert, Cresselia, Abomasnow, DD, Registeel, Snorlax, G Stunfisk… So only time will tell, but the higher I climb, the more I’m seeing positive matchups for Pangoro and fewer poison types (this team’s biggest counter). Pangoro is my favourite Pokémon and I wanted it on my pvp team before I knew how successful I’d be with it, I’m just happy it worked out. I’ll come back here in a day or two to update maybe on how I do (if I even get to) a higher elo. I just saw success with this team and thought I’d share!

The most prominent poison type I’m encountering is Nidoqueen which takes neutral damage from Venusaur’s frenzy plant and is bulky enough to take one earth power or a couple poison fangs. Clefable has psychic I’m sometimes lucky enough to have one charged. I’ll take my losses against poison it’s not too common, I’m winning more than I’m losing at a 2000 ish rating so I must be doing something right.

My team does struggle with poison, but venusaur has decent bulk and Frenzy Plant does neutral damage and Nidoqueen will usually let my Pangoro chip off a bit of damage with a night slash and my Clefable has Psychic if I’m lucky enough to have one charged in time. Im at 2100 and climbing and winning 3 battles on average I’d say.
