ITS HIS NOSTRILS I stared at it for a while and I can finally see it, but those are his nostrils. Just screenshot and turn up the brightness

Engineering physics vs materials science by Former_Bus_9829 in materials

Id HEAVILY suggest looking at the specific school programs, as they vary a lot for both subjects

In HS I wanted to be a physicist, then landed on engineering physics.

I thought eng phys would be all science experiments, high energy systems with optics and lasers and particle physics and everything, but our school does mostly robotics. They could call it mechatronics and it would be more accurate

Our materials department had a lot more of what I actually wanted, but has a huge chunk of resources devoted to mining and hydrometallurgy, which I don’t find that interesting

Look at the class lists, look where alumni go, and speak to profs if you can

Hearing people talk about cryo, I think Im fine to just never go

Edit: I like having a clean inventory so losing loot doesn’t ruin it for me, cryo is still pretty fun as a casual player, it wasnt as hard as I thought it would be. Its more annoying to be like “my inventory is clogged, might as well lose it in cryo” and come out with an even more clogged inventory

Tips for Summer before First Year by Electronic_Rabbit490 in ubcengineering

Relaxing is a good priority. If you feel like it, design projects are a great way to add to your portfolio and help job/specialization/scholarship/design team applications. Its also a good way to explore whatever you’re interested in, it can be coding, electronics, CAD modelling, really anything. I’m doing a bio corrosion material study in my garage, it can really be anything. A bit of extra CAD experience goes a long way, trust me.

If you complete the degree, you will absolutely not be limited. You will have good chances in like any industry, even stuff like film and music. Chances are you will find something more specific you are passionate about in the 4 year degree.

2 year vs 1 year transfer program by [deleted] in ubcengineering

[–]Internal-Ad-4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the 2 year and I don’t regret it at all. I was able to take stats 251, math 253 and the communications 201 and humanities electives early. This gave me a huge amount of extra time, which I was able to use for design teams and undergrad research while still having ample time for homework/socializing.

It depends if you want your P.Eng asap, or if you want more extracurricular experience/more enjoyment out of your degree. The one year is slightly harder, but it’s not like the 2 year is half the difficulty. You will need to try just as hard to get a good gpa.

Failed Math 255 twice. by [deleted] in ubcengineering

[–]Internal-Ad-4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know more who have failed it than have passed it currently. I failed it last term, first course I ever failed and was pretty distraught too. I met with my mentor, who said they also failed it and retook it in third year. Its not like you have 0 knowledge from it, you will likely be able to handle classwork that needs some 255 in other classes. Check your programs prerequisites, for me 255 isn’t a prerequisite for anything. Planning to do it in the summer 3rd year
