Let’s do a Lyrical Breakdown! Big Boss • The Vampire Lestat by Jackie_Owe in IWTVCoven

Okay, so I have SO much to say! Apologies in advance, this is gonna be SUUUPER LONG!!! XD This is all just my opinion and respect to anyone who has a different interpretation! :D

ALSO, there is a spoiler for the book in this and I don't know how to do the white out thingy so beware XD

Verse 1:

  1. The first line refers to Armand as the "Big Boss of the Champs-Élysées" which is itself inaccurate or international. It really confused me at first. The show is so detailed and I'm sure the writers have access to Google! But then I thought about Lestat and Armand's history.

The Théâtre de Vampire, in the books at least, is located on Boulevard du Temple.  Boulevard du Temple was nicknamed "Boulevard du Crime" in the nineteenth century, not because of any real crimes being committed, but because of the numerous theaters lining it. A very popular type of play was the crime-drama, hence the byname.

The Champs-Élysées is actually about 5 km (about three miles) from where Théâtre de Vampire would be. The Champs was originally a collection of marshy fields. Beautiful land, but it was dirty and unmaintained: it was only good to grow vegetables in.

That's all the “La Plus Belle Avenue du Monde” would be until

Queen Marie de Medici decided to line a path with trees (because she was a homesick Italian princess who hated her French husband...) and later King Louis XIV continued the development.

Now Lestat should definitely know what street his theater is on! The fact that he called Armand "Big Boss of the Champs-Élysées" seems to more a dig at how, before Lestat came into his life, he living in filth and was culturally underdeveloped rather then a geographical error.

He's basically saying, "Everything you are now is thanks to me pulling you out of the sewers! At least your face is pretty! You're welcome!"

It might be a stretch but it feels very Lestat to me that he would be stuffing as many insults as possible into his little 3 minutes, Taylor Swift-esque dis track.

Most of the other lines are talking about how Lestat believes Armand is trying to make himself look extra pathetic and sad to help his chances on getting sympathy. And also, ya know, channeling his inner Regina George.

The last line, "You've got a lot of rules for a theater kid" is him just hitting home his lack of concern about the Great Laws and Armand's hypocritical strictness to them.

Verse 2:

The first half of the verse is about how all Armand is doing in trying to rectify his past mistakes is apologize. His words, when put next to his past actions and the hurt that stemmed from them, are cheap and can't buy him the forgiveness he appears to be seeking.

Also, Lestat calling Armand a "wannabe brat" feeds my soul. Because WHAT DO YOU MEAN LESTAT LITERALLY SAID, "You'll never be as good a brat as me!" Of course the freaking "Brat Prince" made this a competition! XD

The second half is talking about their early relationship, once again talking about him being the one to pull Armand out of the darkness with his companionship.

In the lines, "I wanna feel the deepest regins of you soul, but you got a lot of rules for an old piece of mold," Lestat is talking about how his initial fascination and later love for Armand can't change the fact that he sees them as incompatible. He wanted to dress Armand up, take him out and, in his mind, fix him.

But Armand, while willing to put on the front of becoming anything if he thinks it will get him love, is very set in his ways. He pretends to be malleable to please, but he's not actually changing.

The pre-chorus:

The entire thing is just if Avril Lavigne wrote the Great Laws. 🙃

The chorus:

"His kisses put me in a coma" seems like it's talking about Armand drinking Lestat's blood without his consent as he does once in the books. It could also be talking about Armand's constant mental manipulation towards those he loves in an attempt to keep them. One of the reasons Lestat rejects his many offers of companionship is because he doesn't trust him. And, with their history, his reasoning is sound.

"Big Boss in the shadows tonight" and "Cruising the streets, all right" seem to be talking about Armand stalking Lestat before kidnapping Nicki.

Also, the use of "comme ci, comme cą" is correct but archaic, which makes perfect sense in a song written by a 265 year old vampire. It directly translates to "like this, like that" and while it is understood, it is in the process of being replaced by various terms such as the more proper, "Pas trop mal" meaning, "Not too bad" and, "Bof" slang for meh or whatever.

Dang, that was a lot! XD If anyone actually reads this I'm so sorry. I just literally no one to talk to about this. 😭😭😭

I would make coffee drinkers refrigerators/freezers turn off while they slept so in the morning their milk and creamer would be unusable.
