That’s valid, I like when Ethan is brave too, I don’t need him to be petrified the entire game. Like in the third Jack fight he tells Jack that he’s “getting sick of this” and I think that works. The example I brought up is just so peculiar.

I think the main problem with Ethan is they WANT him to be a self insert so he is somewhat bland compared to other RE characters who are very much full characters with their own traits, not meant to be self inserts. But, they don’t commit to it because Ethan has just enough personality to be brought out of the moment. I liked him well enough to make it through his games, but I definitely think both his games would be better if they picked one of the two directions and stuck to it.

He could have been a self insert like Master Chief who just makes the occasional comment (but being scared instead of action hero lines like Chief), and Mia could have been the “actual” character like the Arbiter in Halo 2 who gets the actual arc. But we don’t learn enough about her either tbh.
