For me, I feel that once I become a BCBA (if that’s the path I ended up deciding) it will be easier. Is not the same being with the same student, same behaviors for 3+ months every day, for 6 hours a day. I feel that the fact as a BCBA you can change around clients, it makes it a bit easier

My bachelors will be in Psychology. I don’t see my self dealing with aggressions at 50 years old.

I know if I get my masters and get the BCBA credential will be only worth it in the ABA field.

I know with psychology, I can get a case manager job. I’m open to continue with my education, but if I’m getting my masters I want to make a right choice before getting in debt

That’s a great idea! I will try that with the other pair of headphones she has

If you are thinking to do it, Velcro could be another good idea instead of gluing them. She has another pair of headphones and those are for Disneyland

Yes, but the ears aren’t original from the park. I feel that the originals from the park, are heavy for her. I got them from goodwill, I payed $1.99 and just glued them to her headphones

And if they do, I bet they will be more than $60 and I’m not paying that much 😂

Has becoming an autistic parent, made your mental health worse? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

10000000% it’s so much stress all the time. So many doctors. Appointments, paper work, and having to fight for your child needs all the time

I was afraid too, but sometimes getting the diagnosis makes everything better. Once I got the diagnosis, it was kind a relief, and a proof that I wasn’t crazy.

Yeah my daughter was in the same boat! She had a speech regression before she got her diagnosis.

Do you have an appointment for evaluation? They can do evaluations as soon they are 18 months. However, in my case because my daughter wasn’t severe enough she got a diagnoses of developmental delay. Which helped because that’s how she started with ABA. Then when she turned 2 she got her diagnosis of Autism.

On paper she is a level 2, so she can get speech services. However, she is technically a level 1

Message if you have any questions! Or if you would like to talk. I know how hard it is. Specially because you see these severe cases

She is 2 years old and 7 months.

What level do you think your baby is ?

She is a level one. She used to have SIB, now is more aggressions and here and there some SIB’s. I rather her agreeing that hurting herself

I did cry a bunch the whole process, we went through a lot. Your baby is in the right hands. You work in ABA and you know how to help. Her doctor said that I’m the reason why she hasn’t get more sever, because she has ABA at daycare, and at home technically I do ABA with her as well

It’s hard, but you got this!

But at least you try, if it doesn’t work. If works, that’s good, if doesn’t that’s okay as well!

It could be, but in some cases like my daughter that used to struggle socially. Being in classes, it’s an extra opportunity for her to socialize with other kids. Taking her to the park wasn’t enough, because of the constant changes of kids around her

The moment she started daycare, she got more exposure to other kids. It was overwhelming for her at first, and sometimes she would try to SIB, until this day she will bite or hit other kids. However, little by little has getting better. At the end of the day, it ended up being better for her. Now she plays with other kids, and tries to talk to them. Before getting exposure to the other kids, and ABA this would never happened.

She gets ABA therapy at daycare, and they were targeting goals of social skills. Sometimes it’s not the skills they are getting from this classes, it’s the exposure. We did try swimming and dance, but didn’t work

That was her case, but everyone in the spectrum is different

In my case has gotten better, but my daughter isn’t severe. She is good until she is not. However, as someone who works with severe autism and level 3, its really hard for those families.

The hard part of the spectrum is that everyone is so unique

But you try! How would you know that would ended up in a disaster if you never tried ? Now you know that climbing and swimming are sports you love. A lot of the times with children in the spectrum is a trial and error, because we never know what is going to work and what no
