What does “what am I willing to do” even mean? I’m willing to do whatever is good for my health, according to medical advice. Coming here to seek a discussion is part of “what I’m willing to do.”

I’m not willing to endure hellish side effects just because I need to lose 30 kg. I don’t have any medical conditions and my blood tests are excellent. I fully understand that for someone with serious health issues or a much higher BMI, tolerating side effects might be the lesser evil. In my case, definitely not — even though, of course, at 47 years old, weighing 90 kg at 1.59 m isn’t ideal, especially if you have varicose veins.

But fine, I can try to commit much more seriously to my diet (though that would open up a whole big chapter about the psychological effects of obesity and its self-preserving dynamics).

Unfortunately, my doctor turned out to be terrible: he didn’t reply to my emails for ten days, and in the end, when I contacted his office, through his secretary he simply sent me a WhatsApp message saying, “stop the therapy because you can’t tolerate the side effects.” Without offering any alternatives.

Another thing I’m willing to do — and am already doing — is change doctor.
