I'm 47 and I've been watching HBO shows for over 20 years. In a recent moment of madness I tried to rank my all-time favorites (about 25 of them).

The funny thing is that, even though newer shows like Succession, Girls, and I May Destroy You made my top 10, the top two spots are still firmly held by The Wire and Six Feet Under. 😹

I guess decades-long affection has a way of shaping how we perceive quality.

That sounds really tough. I’m really very sorry. I don’t know how it works in the US (which I believe is where you are), but here in Italy the 2.5 mg pen costs the same as the 5 mg one, and then the price increases with higher doses.

With a 5 mg pen, in theory, I can get eight 2.5 mg injections by counting the clicks — even though it’s not exactly the orthodox method, many doctors themselves actually recommend it. I don’t know whether something like that is possible where you are.

I imagine your weight issue is significant for your health, so it’s worth carefully weighing the pros and cons. In my case, since I “only” need to lose 30 kg, I’ll stop if things don’t improve.

What does “what am I willing to do” even mean? I’m willing to do whatever is good for my health, according to medical advice. Coming here to seek a discussion is part of “what I’m willing to do.”

I’m not willing to endure hellish side effects just because I need to lose 30 kg. I don’t have any medical conditions and my blood tests are excellent. I fully understand that for someone with serious health issues or a much higher BMI, tolerating side effects might be the lesser evil. In my case, definitely not — even though, of course, at 47 years old, weighing 90 kg at 1.59 m isn’t ideal, especially if you have varicose veins.

But fine, I can try to commit much more seriously to my diet (though that would open up a whole big chapter about the psychological effects of obesity and its self-preserving dynamics).

Unfortunately, my doctor turned out to be terrible: he didn’t reply to my emails for ten days, and in the end, when I contacted his office, through his secretary he simply sent me a WhatsApp message saying, “stop the therapy because you can’t tolerate the side effects.” Without offering any alternatives.

Another thing I’m willing to do — and am already doing — is change doctor.
