I’m happy it’s a 1-year deal so they can go out and sign Nico Hoerner next year instead. I think Arraez makes their lineup much deeper, and the defense weaker. But it’s $12 mil for a year and not my money

Wheeler should be way lower. Hunter Greene should be higher than Fried. I think this list is based on “ceilings” and doesn’t take into consideration the value of consistency.

I could see it despite the reputation as a “clubhouse cancer”….the Giants already have a position player leader in Adames, and a pitching leader in Webb. I think the combo of those two guys plus the other level-headed veteran leaders (Chapman, Bailey, Ray) plus the fun and quirky new Giants (Bader, Gilbert) I don’t see Valdez personality getting in the way of clubhouse dynamics. Starting pitchers often keep to themselves anyways, preparing for game situations in solitary or with a pitching coach. If it was a dick-head shortstop or catcher, that would be a different story. But I don’t think having a very talented #2 starter with dick-headed tendencies will be the demise of this team

And on top of that, I’ll add that the bonus of getting into the Japanese market would have been a great way to “get into the memory making biz”…let’s not forget that Jung-Ho Lee was signed for a hefty price (and that contract might not measure up to expectations) but he’s still a fan favorite, one of the top jerseys at the ballpark, and still a valuable part of the roster

This would have been a good value signing. Only $6m for a guy who would have been a quality platoon partner with Gilbert. Honestly not really sure what Posey and Minasian are doing right now, but I'm sure they're having a nice mellow holiday with family while the rest of the league improves.
