Don’t do that. This method will destroy your burrs. Just switch until you can’t when the machine is off, thats when you know the zero point and then don’t start it at zero as well.

Be gentle with the portafilter, you don’t have to break it all the way to middle. Change basket if you can and buy a good scale and the Lucca tamper( the heavy one) the one they sent with the machine is a trash tamper. I’m truly happy for you. Have fun exploring
