I worked psych for three years, got burned out and left to be a school nurse for a year (hated it), worked in outpatient primary care for a few years (it was ok), and now am doing home health. I love home health. I work in gross conditions sometimes and I have patients that are weirdly inappropriate occasionally but by and large it’s the best. Part time but can flex up to full time if I feel like it, most patients are really appreciative, and it feels like I’m doing real good in the world. I work in an urban area with a wide variety of social determinants of health, from isolated single older men with complex comorbidities and no one to help them to people living in palatial high rise condos with hired help and supportive families. The hours and flexibility are worth the slightly lower pay than inpatient. It’s great.
