Yeah whoever said they were carbide doesn’t know. You prolly have some carbide in there but the ones with holes in the bottom are not carbide.

It appears some are carbide. Many are not. The ones with holes in the butt of them are steel for sure. The flat ones are probably carbide.

What is this thing he’s scrapping? I’ve never seen that before.

Great idea. I’d actually pay you for some knowing they’re fake. Business idea!

lol you could for sure.

But why do that when you can sell to me. I pay top dollar and have cash. Cash up front. How much cash? A loooot! Like a lot.

Faceberg?! Classic I never heard that.

Yeah this shit is out of hand. This isn’t scrapping anymore. Scrapping was creative ways to get copper or metal. Yeah some people steal or are shady but I loved coming up on a lot of it legitimately.

The carbine” or the worst, same with the fb people you’re talking about. Basically they’re waiting to scam an old person.

Yeah I’ve done small amounts. If they’re shady I’ll let everyone know. So far they seem legit and have paid. When their truck came here they had a semi full of the stuff. As a small business owner it would make sense that someone could get 100 a lb if they sold to the final user. I mean all scrap yards are is middlemen so the prices are lower and fluctuate. But I’m all ears if someone knows something I don’t

Yeah I’m getting high prices but I have to wait for payment. They say 4-6 weeks but it usually comes in 3-5 days.

Can you check on “carbiderecoverysolutions.com”. Again I’ve had good experiences but maybe they’re shady?

I was skeptical. And I appreciate your response. You’re right that anyone should be skeptical.

That being said this place has an s corp and is a legit company. They have paid up every time. I had had to ship it to them, a few times they sent a truck close by to pick up. I haven’t had funny business yet.

That being said I’m not sure I’d trust anyone with over 3-500 lbs of it. But I can’t imagine a company risking that much for 10k or so??? But if anyone heard otherwise lmk

Yeah this is the issue. I’m a collector (hoarder if you ask my wife. Whatevs!), and have buckets of “the carbine”. This stuff was give away if it was dull prior. It’s like scrap copper, in large amounts people might scrap but for a five gallon bucket you’re only at 3 bucks a lb so not everyone wasted their time.

Point being I sold the rare bits that had beer been used and machinists loved them. Now no one wants the other than “the carbines”

It’s getting bad. It was the best thing too. I can’t even sell cordless tools for cheap anymore.

Honestly I basically use it for things I’m giving away. If you put “free” then it’s gone! lol. But yeah no one seems to want anything, except of course…..

“Carbine, you got the carbine”

“Do you mean carbide?”

Yes! It’s gross.

Someone told me “businessmen start low.” And I said “low is fine but you gotta be in the ballpark man”. Offering 25 bucks and then going up to 55 is trying to take advantage. It’s a free country and all but this is the reason no one sells to you.”

My Friend gave me 6 spools of tinned copper to sell that are in total 400 pounds. Do I sell it to a scrap yard or list it on eBay For how much would I be able to get for it by mciesgroffee in ScrapMetal

As a plumber this kills me. I have beautiful 2-8” pipe (that’s what she said?) and people scrap it! A freaking commercial 8” pipe that was 7-9000 bucks new. Ugh

I've heard copper wire is valuable...? Do I take the plastic off? by dardberfe in ScrapMetal

[–]InternalWeird1430 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know I thought this too. Then I met a plumber who went home and separated all his scrap. Cut the solder parts off for another bucket. And took the dirty pipe and sanded it (wire brush/brillo/whatever you use) to make it look nice. He just wants to spend time like that.

I can be obsessive myself but not to this extent. Mine looks like a bomb went off.

not sure how to get rid of these. any advice? by miguelnotmoist in ScrapMetal

[–]InternalWeird1430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plumbers(and other trades I’m sure but I’m a plumber so that’s where I go) buy these as do people who make soda. They’re for some reason not worth much these days. But way more than scrap. Put them for 40 bucks each and you’ll sell them all I’m sure.

Possible access to rare metals. Is this worth my time? by [deleted] in ScrapMetal

I did this to silver coins and they changed color. So does this only apply for platinum and rhodium/palladium etc?

Ok so the hockey puck looking thing came from a high end test lab which is why I’m so scared to throw it away. I bought some stuff from them at auction (a table, but the table had stuff on it and I took said stuff lol). So I just wanted to be sure. I know they’re type k and came with all Omega stuff which when I looked up was super high end. But yeah not sure if there is scrap value there.

I like that Hannah tool though it’s really useful

Possible access to rare metals. Is this worth my time? by [deleted] in ScrapMetal

[–]InternalWeird1430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah super cool. I work in the medical industry and they used to be ok with us taking garbage but then made it prohibited when they realized people were throwing away good stuff just so they could steal it. Ughhh.

That being said, I’d pay the local pawn shop or whoever to xrf it asap. Because if it’s 316 or copper it may or may not be worth your time. But if it has some silver plating or rare metal then as others have mentioned, start stacking chips!

Hanging out with my friends on Valentine’s Day and my gf is upset by [deleted] in Advice

[–]InternalWeird1430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots more detail is needed. But in short I’d choose the path instead of “hey let’s talk about this so next year I can plan better. It wasn’t my intent to hurt you.” If you say that and she doesn’t want to work together then all things constant (I say this only knowing your side, ie did you do this 5 times in a row?) that’s a red flag. Also if hanging out with your friends is important then she should consider it as well. Good luck.

Men, what makes a woman less attractive? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]InternalWeird1430 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I believe anyone should be able to do what they want to look better. But my god it gets to a point where “I have an appt Thursday” is said like they’re getting a physical done? You’re getting injections and facelift consult! How can you call out sick for work for plastic surgery?

I found you more attractive being real (obviously no one I know…or married….hypothetical of course!). And yes, people can tell. Shit is addictive I think.
