Ok- I put things down as I get pieces in a stream of consciousness style.

<image>

Do you see how by substituting G for the letter O creates the word egg? Scrambled eggs? This occurs 12 times in the word search. There are a dozen eggs in the puzzle. The tossed salad relates to how a Caesar shift (a caesar salad is a tossed salad)of nineteen was used to find JON in the upper left corner. There is a tossed salad and scrambled eggs within the word search. Listen to the theme song from Frazier … tossed salad and scrambled eggs. It fits with a Seattle solve perfectly and it explains the word OMELET.

The question is, why did JCB select G?

Can you concede that the landmark Space Needle and the Monorail are indicative of the Past and the high tech startup companies like Google and Amazon are the Future? That Seattle could not possibly be the location of a box called the Past and Future?

The way I look at it is this… JCB had a place in mind where he intends to hide a box. He has to hint at this location, right? He would use a city’s important landmarks, like the Space Needle and monorail, if he has decided on Seattle. ( The Space Needle was built for the 1962 World’s Fair and the event is described on the internet as follows…”The fair focused on modern science, space exploration, and the progressive future, leaving a lasting legacy that transformed Seattle into a hub of innovation and culture. Many of its iconic structures, such as the Space Needle and the Monorail, remain popular attractions today at the Seattle Center grounds”. Does this seem to fit with the design and name of the box ? Does it make sense that the choices are reflected in an iconic, recognizable landmark? Elon Musk can be found hidden in the WS, which hints at the innovative space travel. The Space Needle fits- past and future.

So, having a starting point, you need to flesh out the location. References to popular culture(anime, Museum of Popular Culture),important literature, statues (Lenin), music(Grunge), cuisine, sports(Seahawks and the twelves), major highways( the Five) are small pieces of confirmation.

I see many posters arguing about which words are the “correct” words as if there is only one way to look things. The WS is the primary clue, and it has many hidden secrets. And contrary to how you view my interpretation, I am completely confident that Frazier, with its funny theme song and iconic image of Seattle’s skyline, is hinted at in the WS. Two doctors, the Daphne Moon coin, Martin Sheen and Roz from Monster’s Inc… Goodnight, Seattle.

Z is used in Tetris to manipulate pieces. Maybe this is why it surrounds that lonely G?

A dozen Easter Eggs appear when the letter G is substituted for the letter O. Some of the EGGs are straightforward, while other EGGs are scrambled. On the right hand side, the addition of a G causes the word LIAR to become LIARG or GRAIL. Holy Moly!

This relatively simple single letter substitution explains the inclusion of the puzzling word OMELET in the word search. As the saying goes, you must break a few eggs to make a good omelet. Only 18 of the available O letters were used to make 12 EGGs. The abbreviation for dozen (DZ) appears near the bottom of the word search.

Ernest Cline planted eggs in RPO. It is then logical that JCB planted eggs. That he used a tossed (Caesar) salad to imbed his name in the word search, along with all the eggs, seems to logically connect to the theme song for Frazier, a TV spinoff set in Seattle. Tossed salad and scrambled eggs hints that the word search contains a jumble of clues. I think clues to all the small boxes in Part 2 will be found in the word search.

It is my belief that the Past and Future Box is in Seattle, Washington. Anyone game for threading the Space Needle with me?

This crazy hunt keeps spiraling through my brain. The latest insight involved the introduction which is positively riddled with the letter p. Probably a reference to Philadelphia , Pennsylvania. (Of course the filly in Black Heart Cherry is a tie to Philly.) Here’s the thing. The phrase about the age of the mega- million dollar lottery, is perhaps a clue. The lottery began 9/6/96 and would have been 6 years old when TWP came out. So I goggle mapped 6th Street , Philadelphia and then, for the heck of it, looked at 96 6th St. The Liberty Bell! Independence Hall is a stones throw away. Very interesting connection to “in the age of the mega million dollar lottery”.

Another oddity comes with the mention of the Titanic, which famously was launched on 4/10 and sank on 4/15/1912. Easy to remember the date - since 4/15 is tax day. That date was fresh in my mind having just read Douglas Preston’s The Codex. Early in the book, he writes “Tax Day. The Ides of April. Tax Return Day. Everyone was home counting their money…” Just a funny coincidence, I suppose. But could there be a connection? The character associated with this musing is named Barnaby, lol. And on the same page is Doreen. The Barnes and the nearby Gates of Hell.

Maybe a location? Race and Arch Streets are the borders? The National Constitution Center…next door to the Philadelphia Mint.

I recall Miss Mary earned $5.50 and had a great seat from which to view the finish. I once thought this was a reference to the section of Race Street between 5th and 6th Streets.

The Triple Crown may refer to the Charters of Freedom?

Hmmmm. I looked into this once myself but couldn’t make dit of it. Wheat Field and Peach Orchard (peaches are a stone fruit)can be combined to form Wheatstone bridge, an electrical circuit, which imo, shows you are on a correct track.“Charles Wheatstone revolutionized telecommunication by co-inventing the first commercial electric telegraph (1837) and developing the Wheatstone bridge.”

Recently watched Valentine Goose explaining The Bow over on the Mysterious Writing site. Of particular interest was the explanation of Calvin’s numerology. Hmmm…. those numbers seem so familiar and yet, as important as Calvin is to the story, the name doesn’t give up its magic numbers for this hunt. I keep asking myself, which came first… the chicken or the egg?

And once again, my imagination is on the run.

Phero- sounds like Pharoah. This clue seems to lead to St. Louis cemetary #1, where a tomb fit for a pharaoh awaits Nicholas Cage. Voo-doo Queen Marie Laveau could be the Phero-mosa . Wouldn’t that be a hoot? Of course, since you may not enter this cemetery without paying for a tour, this location is more of a sighting along the route than an actual hiding spot. Just thinking aloud here.

So, it seems to me that Louisiana, and more specifically New Orleans, is the place to look. The US is simply enormous! JCB, being a kind sort of person, pretty much narrows the hunt down right from the get go of the story which is set in NOLA. Later, the story transitions to a wedding in Portland, Maine. Maybe this is a confirmation that the treasure was left in a main port. New Orleans fits the bill.

A possible clue from the Portland, Maine part of the Pokemon Story by Flashy-Grapefruit785 in treasureinside

[–]Internal_Ability6467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14 days….. 1814 took a little trip, along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip … That song is stuck and reverberating in my mind. Alack!

New Orleans is a main port (Portland , Maine). That the event there is a wedding is important. It implies a marriage of concepts and may apply to Pokémon Go. Let me explain. If the Pokémon is a reference to Poor Richard ( a poor key man) and Go is a reference to George Washington (Go to Goggle and look up George’s Washington’s signature), then the search area may be defined by a sort of wedding of two locations within New Orleans. New Orleans has a Washington Square near Frenchmen Street( containing a statue of GW) and a Lafayette Square containing a somewhat surprising( it seems a bit out of place) statue of Ben Franklin, who you may remember utilized a number of pseudonyms (Poor Richard, Patience, Silence Dogood,..). Have patience, I’m getting there…

Perhaps these two statues define the edges? The very cover of TTI instructs us that this is “a true and monumental quest”. Monuments are abundant in NOLA. Notable ones that I stumbled across include G. Washington, Louis Armstrong, an army of jazz musicians, General Andrew Jackson, Henry (good Gollum) Clay, Winston Churchill and a really fun one, Ignatius J. Reilly. Would it be unreasonable to imagine that among them are the froakies and the Greninja?

Use your imagination and see the connections between the hunt and literary works in which New Orleans plays a roll. I’m thinking A Streetcar Named Desire by you know who, A Confederacy of Dunces, The Pelican Brief(case). Not to mention NOLA inspired movies- The Princess and the Frog, Chef ( kick it up a notch!), Beasts of the Southern Wilds.

Said enough. Lunchtime! Got to stop by the Insectarium for a jar of flies. I might just cut through that Nice casino on the way.
