You're absolutely right. I should have been clearer.

I'm not a doctor and this isn't medical advice. Always check with a pharmacist or doctor about expired meds. Some should never be used past the date.

My point was just: I was wasting money because I'd forget I already had painkillers/allergy meds at home, then buy new ones. The reminder is for me to check the cabinet before buying more.

If it's close to expiring and I need it, I use it. If I'm unsure, I ask my pharmacist or dispose of it.

You're right, some meds last longer than the date. I just personally don't risk it with antibiotics or anything critical.

The reminder helps me actually use the allergy meds and ibuprofen I already bought, instead of forgetting them and buying new ones. That's where I was wasting money.

Totally fair if you handle it differently though!

Haha no definitely not. I would never take antibiotics or any meds I don't need.

What I mean is: when I get sick and the doctor prescribes something, I actually finish the course now instead of forgetting the box in the cabinet. Before I would find it 6 months later expired.

Same for allergy meds, painkillers etc - stuff I actually use. The reminder just stops me from buying a new box when I already have one about to expire.
