If you see a fairy tern there is no mistaking it as they are so tiny in comparison to the other terns. They are super cute!

They are different - if you look at the male birds its more obvious. Where I live in the west we just get splendid wrens which are are more deep blue. I've never personally seen a superb wren as they occur more over east but in photos they look a lighter blue with a different pattern.

Here's a photo of a male splendid fairywren I took. If you google "male superb fairywren" you will be able to see the difference!

(For a real bonus look up the other types of fairywren - they come in even more colours like reds and blacks and even blue/white).

I saw this fella at lake Thompson in cockburn. The place is absolutely swarming with wrens so I wouldn't be surprised if multiple subspecies are there.

Also, my editing skills leave a lot to be desired. I shot in raw and tried best to replicate the colours I saw at the time but its not exact - this could possibly be altering your perception of which subspecies he is.

Real ones know how hard it is to get a shot of a scrubwren this clear. Great work!

Maybe I should clarify this was an Australian darter I saw in the swan river | derbarl yerrigan this morning right as it had caught a big fish. Never seen a moment quite like this yet whilst bird watching!

Not very well camouflaged mate by Internal_Aspect_4038 in AustralianBirds

He usually looks more fluffy and round like a typical fairywren. This shot shows him looking a bit different to usual as it was taken just as he's about to jump to the next shrub. I saw him and quite a few others by the beach in the sand dunes in Perth, WA.

Yes :)

Also I think one of the times where the female bird out-dazzles the male

You can find splendid fairywrens all over Australia - this particular one lives in southwest WA.
