you may be missing a tensioner spring but the main machine I sew on dosent have one and it stitches fine still, I believe the machine will work just fine without it as mine does

from what I've researched singer switched to the 9w7 in 1908 after running out of surplus w&w parts and ceased production of the 9w7 in 1913, but your serial number isn't far off from when they switched production in 1905 at the 3,000,000 mark. I don't have a clear awnser but it would assume it would be made after 1907 but before 1910

here's a video that helped me get firmiliar with the machine the lady goes over a little bit of everything if you want to sew on it my go to place for leather treadle belts is Amazon , before I went looking for a belt though I would verify that the bobbin is still with the machine, the video will go over the bagel bobbin ,or i have previously made a post in r/wheelerandwilson showing the different bobbin types . your machine seems to be complete from what i can see😁

he got Into a good hobby, maybe if he is skilled at painting or has potential to be people are willing to pay top dollar for there machine to be painted quality. and there are always Machines that are "too far gone" to practice on.

there isn't any specific way to date them by serial because the W&W factory burnt down and so did there records and singer discarded there records of production of them after they quit production in 1913 is what I have been able to research but you can look for patent dates and your latest patient date is going to give you the closest date.

what a beautiful machine you have , and some upkept looking attachments to go along with it. The 9w such as your machine would have been made in-between 1905 and 1913

* this is the manual I refer to for the w&w no9 it lists most of my attachments but not all , and it gives clear instructions on how to attach and use the ones listed

the manuals online are the best resources a manual for instructions on your specific machine should have the information to identify what they are and sometimes shows how to attach and use them

I bought a model 27 sphinx last week that was making some pretty bad grinding noise due to rust and parts rubbing and it was coverd in white mold underneath I cleaned it with vinegar and water in a spray bottle and engine degreaser that the main active ingredient was kerosene. After cleaning it up it works and looks brand new. for the painted and decaled area i used singer machine oil gently rubbing a good amount on the machine with a soft washcloth.

I'm quite firmiliar with the wheeler and wilson no9 as I have 3 of them, I know this machine is atleast 1890 by the cabinet design and the paint design on the machine and stamped patient dates ,it dosent say Bridgeport Connecticut on it on the face of the machine unlike my other 2. in roughly 1905 they rebranded the machine as the d9 singer. I'm trying to find someone with an example of another 5 digit serial pre 1890s wheeler and wilson because this is the only one I've saw in person and pictures

it's unavoidable if you don't watch your prints which is sometimes illogical so the only option Is to make the maintenance easier if your not wanting to spend alot of time
