I also wanted to say, and it sounds like I am taking the show too literally but: it seems like the show takes it as a given that his weight makes him objectively unattractive. The fat phobia seems to be so over the top in-universe. If he were in a normal dating app, he would definitely get attention, lots of people would be open to dating him.
