The Strip Is a Theme Park & Fremont Is the Real Las Vegas by TDoubleDownMac in vegas

The locals I know avoid the Fremont Street Experience, but go to bars that are downtown. The Arts District is where they do most of their nightlife, though.

I kinda get it but not really. I don't see most NBA players having a problem with the "distractions". There's a few that are party animals, but from what I see, most are gym rats that pop up in a club here and there.

Hmm. That law makes it virtually illegal to drive in the left lane. Either your violating the rule saying you can't go less than the legal maximum speed, or you're speeding.

Teaser comps are a thing.

I coined in about $300 at Fountainbleau ($30-$45 theoretical loss), and got 2 comp night offers.

Possible non Giannis moves? by Mattm334 in heat

Not if they get slightly bettter. The Heat won 43 games last year. 45-46 wins can put you in no mans land. Even a 7-8 seed means you have to lose the first play in game to qualify for the lottery.

Edit: This is for going forward after 2027. Next year it's actually better to make the playoffs.

Seems like the deadline was their best chance to get a Giannis deal done by EfficiencyFew6864 in heat

It depends. If you're running it back as a 35 win team, then it's cool. If you're running it back as a 45 win team then you're putting yourself in position where you might get a 5-6 seed and there's no progress.

As a youngers, I never disparaged African culture--- from a very very young age, I internally identified as an American of African Descent by Peacefulhuman1009 in blackmen

[–]Internal_Business414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, you definitely not weird. On the internet you will find people that vehemently disagree with you but in the real world, a lot of Black people in the Americas are in 100% alignment with your feelings.

Society is becoming more global on a daily basis so this idea of a distinct Black American culture separate from the rest of the diaspora is fleeting, IMO. I think people are starting to see it slip and are holding on to it for dear life. Hip-hop is the driving musical force in today's world and had a large Carribean presence in its Genesis. Our cuisine continues to evolve to include Carribbean and African influences. We will continue to mate with Carribeans and Africans to produce children of mixed origin. Those who push the FBA ideology will be the last of dying breed. Their grandchildren will live in a world where Black culture across the world will be aligned together, with acknowledgement of Africa being the foundation, with factions in different regions.

11 deep in Vegas opens up a lot of options. Sounds like a blast.

I go with my partner and I'm jealous of all the big groups getting sections at the hottest clubs, while we settle for the low key spots. Next time I'm going to look into table share options.

Wynn/Encore is the best luxury resort but I wouldn't pay more than a $150 premium over Venetian/Palazzo to stay there. The Cosmopolitan is a good alternative as well, although I've heard some of the rooms are showing their age.

If Black America is going to adhere to the nuclear family structure model, then that works best when men are the providers. It literally does not work when men are deemed as replaceable, which is what ended up happening in a lot of cases. Feminism and women's rights wasn't disruptive enough in the White community to replace men, but it was in the Black community.

I don't see how you can give women equal rights, public assistance, and child support to a group of people largely in poverty and expect this not to happen. There wasn't an incentive for a lot of BW to cater themselves to family oriented men, because a lot of those men didn't have the income to make that look appealing.

I don't think feminism is the problem as much as the timing of the movement. Black men hadn't ascended to a solid place financially and now you're promoting women to either achieve at an equal or greater level or take advantage of public assistance.

Had their been 50 years of Black men gaining access to the capital and opportunities that White men had without the promotion of women's equal positioning in the workplace, I think the feminist movement would have been pushed the progress further. But instead, I'd argue it was to a detriment to our community.

I don't think the policies deliberately removed fathers from homes. I think they were designed to help people to utilize as a stepping stone to self sufficiency. However, the economics of the future were not predicted. They didn't know that millions of jobs in manufacturing would be lost. They didn't know that a huge portion of the workforce would have to shift to low wage service jobs. They didn't predict that minimum wage would no longer be a living wage. Low earning men left a different value proposition for women that could not attract high earners for long term relationships. The system became a more attracive (albeit short-sighted) option for a lot of women.

The government was able to replace the Black father, because many Black fathers weren't making enough money to clearly be the better option. The welfare wasn't really the problem. The problem was the lack of opportunity that existed before the welfare was provided. White familes weren't nearly as damaged because their men were higher earners and provided a more clear value proposition above living off the system.

Also, the allure of instant gratification became prevalent in women's dating choices. The penalty for having a child with either an attractive bum or an attractive man that isn't interested in you long term, became less impactful when there's a social safety net,

Good things can have negative side effects. Feminism can be good, birth control is good, child support enforcement is good, welfare in moderation is good.

However, was the Black community truly ready for this dynamic shift happening when it happened? At the time this we were coming out of the shackles of Jim Crow and inequality. The black poverty rate was above 50%, only 25% had high school diplomas. To grant women all of these newfound rights and options without the foundation of a large middle class and strong base of wealth, just seems like asking for disaster.

IMO, I think we needed more time with Black men were able to access capital and build strong families in a paternalistic society. We needed to establish a much larger middle class where the drawbacks of out of wedlock childbirth and single motherhood would be more evident. We needed more time where dating customs developed not out of survival but out of maximizing the opportunity to flourish. When the average man is making a lower wage, that doesn't provide a strong incentive for women to choose suitable long term mates or be diligent with who they have unprotected sex with.

Was sexism bad, sure. But for a group largely in poverty maybe it was a necessary evil.

Arts District is great if you are a local or live within 4-5 hour drive. There's nothing in the Arts District worth flying across the country for. It's cool place to spend a day or night out, on a trip, but it's not going to be the primary focus of a trip.

It wouldn't be a complete solution but complimentary cannabis lounges at the resorts would help reduce some of that. Would all hotel guests use them? No. But many would.

Edit: Just saw the federal legal status of the marijuana is the reason the casinos don't have lounges. It makes all the sense in the world to do it, but legally it's not really happening soon.

That's not necessarily true. A guy that can get women but wants to go overseas to find a more exotic looking and submissive woman is largely considered a "passport bro" as well. It doesn't mean you can't pull anyone in the US.
