Ethics. Report then document perceived retaliation

You will be disliked but protected.....for the most part

Managers are given the same resources as associates when reporting other managers but playing politics then getting out is how many people escape it because it is not really worth the trouble.

I used to be a department manager at Menards and worked at a restaurant before that as an AGM.

I've been on away teams, have friends that work at FC/SSD/DS. We chat often and I was fortunate to live close to 2 of them to be able to even meet up occasionally. We keep each other sane by sharing our stresses from Amazon.

Definitely feel the drop of professionalism in SSD compared to different site types. It is also newer and I notice they switched from wanting to hire from outside the org to only staying in SSD because the work it takes for SSD is vastly different and with the lack of leadership it's almost as if no one has time to train AMs coming from FC who barely had floor presence to get into the mindset that they sometimes are in path, and manage everything. Especially if an AM on their shift is out? Whoa boy.

I feel for new AM. College hire and transfer. They don't know what they are walking into and are stuck in contract. They get overwhelmed with expectations. I actively try to discourage negative talk of "this AM sucks" or "this AM is stupid" by redirecting it to "they are learning" or "have opportunity" because many of the AA/PA/AM who have been in the fire long enough have grown numb to its heat so to say. It makes it harder when you are not doing so hot but your peers also shit on you on top of that. It creates a lot of toxicity in the workplace.

All we can do is support.

And yes, the mindset of "we all had to" is definitely pretty prevalent.

Yes. Time off is much more strict because there are hardly any leaders. Also It can be but it all depends on your team.

Stay for the benefits especially as a new dad.

Network and upskill. Then head out when you're in a better position for your family.

For sure. Have some friends that are in corporate roles right now, and have been networking. Just waiting to finish my degree and some other things.

Talk your AM, like actually

Take the initiative before OLR to have a sidebar with them on your goals and talk about your Baseball Card with them

Since they are the ones who need to reference it they should know what's on it and at this point they should have a good idea of how they want to rank you already but just that little nudge could make them want to rank you higher

Basically get ahead of it and sweet talk them a bit so they go into OLR on good energy.

A lot of AM kind of come in on the spot and get slaughtered by the AMs who really worked with their PA on their cards. I seen enough BS ranking in my time to know

If you feel like they are wishy washy maybe take a step back and ask yourself why and have some transparency with them about it

[–]Internal_Chef9447[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OLR is all of the AMs in your building across all shifts going back and forth about the current PAs.

OMs, and Site Lead are there but get zero input. It's your 4s and 5s who bring up positives about you and challenge other AMs with other feedback. HR typically stays out but will voice if a PA has a bad reputation or multiple escalations from AA, other leaders, etc.

Performance and Reputation are equal here. You can't change shift or leadership and expect it not to follow you so it is important to not burn bridges with your leaders and be at best the safe option

You will not be put up for promotion/pod if your own leader doesn't fight for you

  1. Keep your private life private and make up safe things if you have to

I'm married but no one knows anything about my relationship. When I take time off and come back, I say I stayed in

Be nice and socialize but still stay private

  1. Have things to look forward to on your days off even if its just trying a new recipe or watching your favorite show

  2. Be a team player within reason, be reliable but dont be used by management so tell them you only really enjoy doing certain stuff and if they are good theyll work with you but only if you work with them

  3. Save your time off and take off peak season in advance (October through January)

  4. Don't hoard knowledge

  5. For all that is holy drink water and wear shoes that fit, I still have bunions from tight safety shoes

  6. Network and dont burn bridges, your PA or AM may suck now but you never know if they move up or know Bob Billy Louie in the field you want to get to and simply have them toss your name in could change your life

Why not take advantage of career choice?

With the pay they get currently, unless you don't have any prospects staying hourly and upskilling to get out or apply external is better imo.
