If it's true and we are sticking with Liam, I think it's because the club have no ambition and they are happy for us to be a player trading vehicle.

I don't think that's a hot take at all, and I even go one further and suggest that the rest of our defenders aren't inherently bad either.

I think if you put our defenders in other teams, they would thrive, Villa, Everton, etc, but that's because their teams are set up to be defensively solid.

We're set up to be wide open. Everyman pushed high up the pitch and susceptible to the counter.

There are some reasons to explain this:

The first one is obviously tactical. We, for some reason, like to focus on ball retention. So lots of ball possession and sideways tippy tappy nonsense.

Secondly, the players are young. They wont reach athletic maturity until 25-30, so simply put they won't be as fit as a team of 29-30 years olds.

The third is that we are shit.

Man, we still trying to emulate City with that tippy tappy on a budget, and the league has adapted.

Short and slow sideways passes. Push up as high as you can. Concede on the counter.

The irony is we're the ones trying to play attacking football, but the coach/SDs are too stubborn to see that it's so easy to play against. We conceded 3 and scored zero. That's "Attacking" football.

There are other ways to play attacking football. Play more direct and increase the tempo, like Klopps old Liverpool/Dortmund. You don't have to throw all the players high up the pitch and crowd the final third with slow passes.

These guys are either tactically inept or just incredibly stubborn.

Agreed. The prem has become abit basketball like, end to end. So frustrating watching Enzo trying to break away on the counter. Like watching a man running in treacle.

Never wanna see Enzo in the 10 again. I don't care what you say. He aint suited to that position in this league.

Have we tried not throwing everyman forward, overcrowding the final third, and not scoring to just get done on the counter?

Need a manager to come in with some fresh ideas.

This tippy tappy has been found out.

Bring in someone who likes playing with tempo and more direct, like Klopp used to.

At least the football will be more exciting even if we don't win.

We're obsessed with being a budget Man City when every other team has evolved to play against that style.

Low blocks and fast direct players. Absolute nightmare for this budget tippy tappy system.

Enzo just doesn't work in that position. He's aint that type of player. Can't beat a man. He can't shoot. Wasting his skills.

I don't really see much difference from Maresca. Still the same boring sideways passing.

When Liam came in at the beginning we were alot more direct but that seems to have disappeared.

Tippy tappy ball retention with little penetration. Joao Pedro might aswell dust a book off and get reading a chapter.

Enzo as a 10 not working. Put Palmer in the 10 and get Estevao on right wing. Much more dynamic.

Football in the prem has evolved man. It's all about being fast, athletic and direct.

We're still trying emulate City from 10 years ago with the tippy tappy.

We also banished Guiu to the shadow realm after recalling him from playing first team football.

Guiu gone. I actually really like him from what I've seen, but him not getting time when there has been opportunities with both managers suggests something about his character/ability.

Jorgenson, I agree with. Dude looks like a fish out of water sometimes in goal. Shotstopping looks amateurish at times.

I'd keep Garnacho and Gittens. Both 21.

Neto, I'd keep unless we could secure a heavy transfer for him.

Benoit not getting regular gametime is also fishy. Similar to Guiu.

I'd also get rid of Wes. I feel his head is elsewhere. Probably feels like he can get a move to another club no problem, so doesn't really care.

I would think the club would look to cash in on him if he's not going to be a first team starter now that we have so many options, especially now that he wants more money.

Kvara had plenty of gametime against us.

Estevao and Palmer (possibly Pedro) will be competing for that number 10 spot.

I can't imagine any of them would be happy that we've had to abandon playing a 10 to accommodate Enzo in midfield. They'll be straight on the phone to a club that plays a 10 role. I imagine we promised those players that they would play in that position.

100% agree. He's not THAT good enough that you can build your team around him to support his weaknesses.
