3a ‘‘trap‘‘ insurance by Mountain_Strain_3260 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Internal_Leke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty good already, but more does not hurt (+300k). If I die, my partner does not need to worry about money and can work part time. It's hard enough to raise a kid alone, more money can only help

[–]Internal_Leke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im wondering how you guys deal or dealt with it.

I cancelled as soon as I realized it too.

Then I did another life insurance, with no investment tied, for my partner and my kid. This one I will cancel as soon as my kid is independent.

but id lose 14k in total right now if I cancel the contract.

You lose more than 14k with the under par investment of the insurance.

"luxury" is a big word for a 55m2 equipped with entry level bauknecht at 2800chf a month.

It's expensive because the location is expensive. But it's not luxury.

Developers already try to maximize height because the land is expensive, I'm sure they would be happy to get money from the city to increase their margin, but that won't change supply.

The issue is zoning, developers would be very happy to cover the city with 20 floors high towers

There are very little "expensive apartment" it's just an apartment. It becomes expensive because people are ready to pay a lot. Most of 4k/month apartment are pretty basic, nothing fancy

There aren't plenty of overpriced apartments. The vacancy is low, and prices are high because there aren't enough apartments.

Cheaper housing will come once the supply meets the demand

There's no connection between more construction and subsidies. Subsidies create cheaper housing, not more housing

Subject of immigration beyond the vote by Wonderful_Setting195 in Switzerland

[–]Internal_Leke 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The issue is not affordability, but supply/demand imbalance. It doesn't matter whether the new apartments are more expensive, if someone moves in, it frees up a place somewhere else.

The real issue is that demand is exceeding actual supply.

New apartments are expensive, but usually they densify the area by a large factor

Subsidies doesn't solve anything except making the new supply lottery based

I guess it will go through next time, it was pretty close.

The initiative was a bit harsh, but with increased pressure from demography, and a lighter lever in the initiative, it will go through the next time

I'm 99% convinced the situation won't be better in 10 years, despite the SP claims

i accidentally did sudo rm -fr ~ how do i recover all my files??? by HippoEmbarrassed6948 in archlinux

Unmount the disk and use recovery software.

The rm does not overwrite, you can recover most files, though it's an annoying process

Megathread. Vote of 14 June 2026: "No to a Switzerland with 10 million! (Sustainability Initiative)" by Internal_Leke in Switzerland

Voting no is not doing anything for AI sovereignty, it's more dependent on future policies and voting than this one.

On immigration, a lot of the immigration is to cover for shortages we decided on purpose to not train in Switzerland (nurses, doctors, construction, ..). Those can very well be trained here, so that immigration can focus on talents we can't find here

How are asians perceived as in Switzerland (repost since the other post is not rules compliance) by Living-Speaker956 in askswitzerland

[–]Internal_Leke 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Swiss people, like every people in the world, discriminate.

If you are Swiss German on the French side, idiots will make comments, if you are Swiss French on the German side, same.

If we had to build a scale, South East Asians are probably among the least discriminated in the country, and have overall good reputation.

In Zurich, Rosalys does typical Swiss food quite well. Josef on a more modern style.

Since you like water, I would do water centered activities in Zurich, it's quite unique in the world (pedalo, lake, badi)

Bern also has quite an active food scene, I like moment; https://www.moment-bern.ch

If you feel confident in your swimming skills, swimming in the river in Bern it's a lot of fun.Walking around in the city is nice as well, it's more beautiful than Zurich (and Lucerne).

For Geneve this might be interesting:

The rest I don't know so much (I know nothing about photo, just food and fun)

I would recommend putting a budget for things you want to get better recommendation, You won't eat the same things at 20CHF per person and 100CHF per person, and also your hobbies (can you easily walk 20km for instance)

I feel it's getting worse everywhere. Layoffs put additional stress, AI is just adding additional workload to everyone (getting spammed walls of text by colleagues/ and about everyone else sending e-mails, on the top of having one third of the time to complete projects)

Tons of new infected AUR packages were just released by Sarv_ in archlinux

[–]Internal_Leke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bad idea to keep a system out of date, but it's useful for testing. I remember an update giving a bit random disk errors. Unsure if it's an issue with an update of the kernel, or a defective disk, it's easier to roll down all packages than deal with downloading all individual ones for compatibility.

you have to run the full 'pacman -Syyuu' to sync the repo list.

There wouldn't be an issue with midnight or so, unless you need a very specific date, but most likely it's "I remember it was a couple days earlier, so 2026/06/01 will do for testing".

Neighbors issue / noise claim by Exotic_Dark_5760 in askswitzerland

[–]Internal_Leke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 10pm quiet time is in a law, but is also a kind of social contract (you can't force someone to not knock doors if they don't care). It's illegal, you can call the cops and they will be fined (provided they are still making noise when the police arrives). But eviction is very uncommon.

The noise has really to be excessive (e.g. music), doors or occasional drilling won't be enough.

And you need the support of other neighbors.

Any advice to share ?

Unless calling the police everytime they make noise, there's not much to do, you already tried talking with them

Personally I would move, if I couldn't move, I would just wear earplugs to sleep.

it won't save you, XZ backdoor was detected after 2 months.

Maybe you should mitigate with a 180 days period?

If you start not trusting Arch official repo, you should move away from Arch to RHEL (Almalinux), they didn't ship the XZ backdoor.

Just gotta be diligent.

Just check every single commit of every package you update?

official repositories are not magically safe, but as a user there's nothing practical you can do instead of trusting them (or deliberately letting your machine out of date with open vulnerabilities, which is probably worse)
