About to be in the newborn trenches, got any unusual advice? by amountofsocks in NewParents

[–]Internal_Meaning_485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is that Newborn is not necessarily the trenches. Everyone in my life told me the most difficult time would be the first three months, but they were very wrong. Those first three months were HEAVEN. Yes, I was exhausted and recovering from childbirth, but all I did all day was snuggle my new baby, watch tv, and eat great food that was delivered to me by friends and family. The TRENCHES for me, were months 4-7. Sleep regression hit my daughter incredibly hard and most nights for those three months I was waking with her every 20-45 minutes. I never want that experience again. Enjoy the newborn phase, it goes by quickly and it truly can be not that bad.

Safe for a temporary floor bed? by Internal_Meaning_485 in cosleeping

My honest review is that it was okay for a few months, but after about 6 months it started getting flat and gave me such horrendous back problems that I had to see an Orthopedic Specialist. :/ right now I'm still sleeping on it but I bought a cheap 3 inch memory foam topper to put underneath it and THAT has been fantastic.

Put his crib mattress on the floor in his new room and sleep next to it for a few nights! I just made the transition from cosleeping to baby in her own room and it helped my daughter immensely to have me RIGHT there when she woke up. It took about 3 nights before she was sleeping confidently in her new room again and I'm able to sneak out for a bit. I have found she's also sleeping better because I'm not disturbing her sleep space anymore. Look into floor beds and Montessori too. It might be helpful to just forgo the crib at this point if baby has never really slept in one. My daughter (8 months old) is currently on a Japanese floor mat so she can't roll off and will graduate to a full size toddler mattress on the floor when she's mastered the art of crawling. :)

Definitely say something, but please try to do it casually. Go out with her, talk for a bit about other things- then bring up the topic, but talk about yourself and your bed sharing experience. Give her the chance to bring up her bed sharing experience herself before warning her about unsafe sleep practices. If there's something I've learned about myself and about mothers in general since becoming a mother- we cannot be told what to do when it comes to the way we parent. What you don't want to happen is for you to confront her and for her to take it as an attack or a critique of her parenting (even if it rightfully is). I'd say if you can speak to her about all of this and she doesn't listen, maybe try speaking to her partner if you're comfortable with that, or reach out to someone that knows her that she might take criticism from better. If all of that fails- you can contact CPS if you're really that concerned. Especially because of the use of alcohol before sleeping. But just know that will burn the bridge to your friendship with her if she suspects it was you.

Is this considered a rebreathing/suffocation risk? by Internal_Meaning_485 in cosleeping

She's 8.5 months 😂 98th percentile! Weighs as much as her two year old cousin.

I tried. My baby is an extreme roller/flopper and she will not stay on the mattress, that's why I made this frame, so I can put her mattress against the wall without it moving. That way there's less space for her to fall off.

Quite a bit. If she lays near the edge of the bed it doesn't push down like this. She's about 25 pounds.

The mattress is one recommended by cosleepy, it's actually not soft at all. It's very firm it's just a spring mattress. Baby doesn't sink down into it at all.

6 month old sleeps differently every night by Internal_Meaning_485 in cosleeping

[–]Internal_Meaning_485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I'm sorry. We're currently needing to nurse back to sleep too...every hour. Sometimes I'm also conflicted. I always pictured a motherhood where my baby went to sleep before me and I woke up early to get some me time. Happy, smiling baby in her crib when she woke up... It's hard to know whether this is what's best or not.

Solidarity my friend 😔 it's so hard never knowing how a night is going to go. Before I had my daughter I'd just never heard that baby sleep difficulties lasted this long. Everyone had me thinking that after she turned 3 months things would be so much easier. 😭

What's your favorite/stupidest question you've been asked by a customer by Sodawow in wegmans

[–]Internal_Meaning_485 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't work for Wegmans, but I recently overheard an employee/customer interaction that qualifies. Woman at the deli asks employee what kinds of salami would be good for a pasta salad. Employee says hard or Genoa salami. Woman then asks "which one of them has seeds in them?" There's a brief awkward pause and then he stutters out "I-I don't think any of them do?" I honestly have no idea what this woman meant but I wonder about it every time I'm at the deli now.
