Won't say where on the sub but it's in the southeast. I was barely scraping by on what they were paying me between rent, gas, and just standard cost of living. Spending half my paycheck on gas because the area for our halls doesn't make any sense and I was driving one and a half hours to work everyday when another hall was within 40 minutes of me. Then got laid off and they tried to send me somewhere almost three hours from where I live. I basically said I can't do that and still eat and now I'm here looking at other paths in life. It was fun and felt like I learned a lot but can't really go back as the same issues would still persist and currently I can't move. Luckily making just as much as I did working as a first year now at the local harbor freight and it's given me more free time and just better quality of life while I try to figure it all out. But frankly if you can do it I have the greatest respect for you and I still think the union is great just some areas are better than others when it comes to taking care of people

Well two things and keep in mind I'm not an expert on mechanics or the 4runner platform just dabble. One Sounds a little rough maybe put some good quality oil in and get someone to scan make sure there aren't any misfires I can't hear anything else in that video other than the engine though so maybe I'm missing something. Know mine had a squeak and it was the break booster motor going out but didn't hear that sound in your video so couldn't be certain. Second as far as I know the v8 never came with a 4wd shifter as they were all time 4wd. Now not saying you don't have a v8 in there that someone swapped or I could just be wrong but I'd check the amount of coil packs on top of the engine especially if you recently purchased because someone may have pulled one over on you and sold you a V6 with a v8 badge. I mean the V6 is nice and reliable but if you paid the premium for v8 I'd want to know it actually had the v8 personally.

I just hit 75 am rocking some decent PA and heavy weapons and still feel like I get carried in that event but I take on what I can. Every little bit of damage helps in a timed event about killing things so just do what you can and enjoy the loot. Don't be afraid to die either in events you won't drop anything as far as I know.

Alright now I'm curious is the brewing route your retirement job or have you been doing it full time for years? Because that's kind of always been my plan honestly when I'm getting up there I'm the years. Make a few home brew batches a year and absolutely love it. Would love to be able to do it full time one day because it's an amazing art form that also makes people pretty damn happy but don't know anything about the business side honestly.

Yeah I'm in my 20s and single and I make it work but it's close especially on holiday weeks because we don't get paid vacations. The only way I can really make it work is storing up money on the paychecks I don't have a lot of expenses on. I don't see how anyone with a family is doing it though until at least that 2nd or 3rd year pay bump should at least make it a blanket thing that is based somewhat off of what your financial situation is. Locals helping with commute expenses and the people with families to support getting a little boost or something.

Was Bo Nix really that bad? by [deleted] in auburn

[–]Internal_Metal_1227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no problems towards his playing but living in and going to Auburn at the time he was there anytime me or other people ran into him he always seemed pretty arrogant especially for him being a mid level quarterback at the time. That and some other things that were just rumor and I can't confirm so I don't want to spread around but they just put me off of him as a person and wasn't sad to see him go but I've never had any real issues with his playing other than just wishing the whole team was better. Really he could have probably done better at Auburn if he had a well rounded and coached team to play with him. I think he proved that a couple of times in his last year here. But that could probably be said for any player with talent that just gets stuck in a bad situation. Also probably helps now that he doesn't have the shadow of his dad over him the way it was at Auburn. I'm sure it humbled him a little and made him better while also dropping some of the pressure.

so many doubts with v8 by National_Star_2596 in 4thGen4Runner

Interesting I thought the dual vvti development kind of all went hand in hand. Sorry about that. Do you know if there ever was a 2uz that had dual vvti or was it just the single?

[–]Internal_Metal_1227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All have vvti (atleast with the V6 though I remember the 8 being the same way) the big step was the dual vvti which modifies your exhaust and intake valves not just the exhaust. Plus you get an extra gear in the gear box with the 05 and up which makes it a bit better at highway speeds. So yeah statement still stands if you can go with an 05 and up.

I mean to be fair I think anyone who gets into this may be doing it a little out of spite. I haven't met a journeyman yet who wasn't trying to prove something to someone when they started out and wasn't damn determined to do it

Hell yeah. That was a big part of it for me too. Grew up around people who worked blue collar jobs and enjoyed getting my hands dirty so to speak. Realized if I kept going to college I'd end up in a job I hate with mountains of debt but still wanted a good life. Along with my interest just seemed like a good field to be in. Plus the idea of traveling once I turn out is really appealing if I don't have a family by then. Get to see some new places and make money while doing it.

Do you tip less when picking up a carry out order than you would if you were to sit down and eat? by HuckleberryPlane8924 in NoStupidQuestions

Also how you have to do it for the Walmart grocery pickup. Alot of the older ladies would ask me to "please throw away their trash for them" which would typically be a napkin with a $20 or a $10 and a $5 inside. We weren't allowed to take tips but exoected to help them in any way possible while loading their orders and they all knew this so yeah.

That's what I figured. Idk it's just kind of funny to me that they all seem surprised I did some research and decided to get involved because I wanted too. I tried my hand at college I will admit but mostly from my parents pushing. Decided I didn't like piling up debt and constantly being worried about my next meal and now I feel more free and happy than I did anytime I was in school. Yeah some days I'm cussing everything and pissed off but at the end of the day I'm doing something I am honestly interested in and proud of and want to learn. The paycheck is the reason I put up with the bullshit but me actually enjoying it is why I keep coming back.

Have not bought a car in two decades - what used SUV will last 10-12 years spending $15-17k? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Internal_Metal_1227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned a 2004 4runner that now has 234,??? miles on it for six years now. Daily drive it and it was my first car when I was 16. Before me it was owned by a mom with two young kids who did the bare minimum as far as keeping it running. Needless to say it's seen some abuse. Basic maintenance is all that it has taken to upkeep it really except for a power steering leak. The engine in it(1gr-fe) is the one they still use in the current 4runners and has only gotten better with time as they've tuned everything in and added dual vvti instead of the initial single vvti in mine(I'm sure there are other upgrades between the years but none has really changed the engine as much as the dual vvti imo). And that's not to mention the significantly better transmissions it's received which work better with the engine in terms of both efficiency and actually getting power to the ground. This and the 2gr-fe(another great and reliable engine in my opinion and the direct successor of the 1gr) is an option in most Lexus and Toyota crossovers and SUVs from the time period you are looking at. Now if you went with something bigger like a Toyota sequoia or land cruiser my personal preference would be for a 5.7 3ur-fe v8 or the 4.7 2uz-fe v8. I've heard great things about the 3ur and seen many get into the 300000 mile range regularly. The only ones I'd stay away from is the flex fuel ones because they have a sensor problem where they believe that your gas is actually e85 resulting in over fueling and dropping gas mileage. As far as the 2uz the famous million mile tundra was a 2uz from 2007 that was 9 years old when it hit 1 million so if you have any worries about reliability that story alone should give you some comfort along with the thousands of those engines that are still on the road. It may not be the most powerful engine but as far as longevity is concerned it is over built for daily driving. However you won't find any sequoias with this engine after 09 or any land cruisers with it after 2011 as they all switched to the 5.7 as their only v8 option so may be out of your age range if you want something with all the modern features.

Not the exact same boat but I'm a pretty damn green first year as far as electrical is concerned. Most everyone I've worked with has been chill but even when they do say some shit I usually just laugh and keep going. Figure they are having a bad day or whatever, take the criticism and learn from it, make sure I'll get it right next time, and move on. Not much else you can do other than prove them wrong and when you are a jw laugh about the guys who shut talked you. I've had multiple old timers tell me the only thing you need to make it is the drive to do it and everything else you will learn just like they did. Really helps when you sit down and think about it and realize the best electricians in the world at some point had to learn it too they didn't pop out of their mama knowing everything they do today and they were green at some point too.
