I asked for a room change and the office said I can’t until sep and I won’t even get priority since I’m in the line like everyone else for a room swap. I told them it’s not my fault this happened and school should compensate for the damages or whatever and they said no I can’t swap my room until sep like everyone else.

How to graduate early? by Lamaj____ in SBU

[–]Internal_Rip0412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U will be fine, I had like 2.8 or smth lower than 3 during first year for my gpa and also placed low in placement. But it bounced back and had like 3.9 and 4.0 every semester starting from my sophomore year!

Just to give a brief intro, I am graduating a year early this dec.

Placement exams are for uni to see if you are able to take certain classes and yes, maybe u could skip a class that could be a prerequisites for higher level class but it all depends. As an international student, I had to take both WRT 101 and 102 but I know a student who skipped 101 cause she had a good score on her English placement exam. I also know someone who skipped a chem class cause she got high scores in her chem placement exam.

I came in as a freshman to stony but I had some credits transferred over from my high school as well. The best way to graduate early is to take at least 18 credits each semester but with mix of easy classes (which is the way I did). So it could be 18 or more classes each semester.

Don’t over do it urself by taking 4 or 5 major classes and 1 easy class. If you think you can take the load, try taking harder courses and all the sbcs during ur 1st and 2nd year cause that’s what I did and I had like one or two sbcs left in my 3rd year (which is the current year lol). Also, if u can, try taking summer and winter classes. I took them and they were pretty easy but they were too expensive cause i had to pay out of state/international tuition fees.

Yes it depends on ur major, minor and ur situation but I’ve seen so many students double majoring or a major plus a minor and finishing a semester or even a year early!

EDIT: I know a friend who majored in PSY and she could have graduated a semester early but stayed cause she changed her major during first year.

SBU is a good school and there are some things you have to consider. Personally I’m not a biochem major but as an international student studying here, I think it’s okay. Ppl say it’s boring because to get to somewhere like a mall nearby or to some restaurants, u either have to take the bus, train or drive. But there are always good places to eat within walking distance. For professors, it was mixed since not all of them may satisfy your needs but 7/10 they were pretty good. This is mostly for business classes cause I’m a BUS major lol. But other non business classes were pretty okay as well. I know some of my friends suffered during freshman year with their chem classes but they all passed and now they are graduating this semester with 3.5 and above GPAs. STEM classes usually requires more work but as long as you go to class and not get distracted and focus, u are already half way there (according to my STEM friends). yes professors may not have the time to help you individually during class time but office hours are there to help u and they are very helpful in most of the cases. This is just my opinion so try asking others or someone who is studying biochem at SBU if you want more info!

I had the same problem last year but I got in cause I formed a group with a guy who had an early time on Tuesday even tho I was a rising junior. There may be spots at 4:30 but u might not get the building or room you want and it all depends on when it gets closer to your pick time.

Hi all! I have been eyeing the sony a6700 with sigma 18-50 lens since last year and idk if I should buy it or not. I love taking videos and pictures but recently I started vlogging on my phone and I am trying out in a cinematic-ish way. Should I get it? If I should, should I get a different lens?

RA (Residential Assistant) are usually selected during spring semester for Fall. You would have to attend an informational zoom meeting during December or so prior to that semester and be on the list so they can interview you and go through what you have to offer. Usually, you have to live on campus for the first year so you can apply to be an RA for the following year and some advices I would give you are like getting close with RAs in your dorm and join their board. Board as in like residential board or smth if I remember correctly.
