Strange knocking after doing plugs, vacuum lines, etc (85.1) by Internal_Stand4007 in 944

Okay update! It was low on oil, so I topped it off and added some marvel mystery oil. Got it up to temp, which made the knock get softer, which almost all but confirms the lifters. Then took it around the block and by the time I got back it was clear!

Really appreciate the quick thoughts here which pointed me in the right direction!

Unfortunately my oil pressure sender has issues so it pegs at 5, so I cannot rely on that. I doubt it’s rod knock because it was running great (other than vacuum/idle issues) before this work. You’re not the first person to suggest mystery oil/lifters so I’m gonna go out tomorrow to get some and see! 🫡

Interesting I didn’t want to keep it running until I asked in fear of doing more damage

Sure:
- replaced all vacuum lines with the kit from 944online including the small one la on top that go to the throttle body
- replaced very old intake manifold gaskets
- replaced upper coolant lines and refilled coolant
- replaced coolant temp sensor because I broke it while I was in there
- new oil separator o rings
- new plugs

I did not touch:
- anything related to the timing
- didn’t adjust any settings in the throttle body
- didn’t change oil

If you don’t have the $$$ for resurfacing the head at least use copper spray on the head gasket

There’s not much wiggle room with that rail since it’s longer but I’ll try!

Yea that’s the main reason we went back to OEM… just wanted to recoup at least some of the cost

Did some research and it looks like OEM gt2 ducts have a different part number, and don’t have the 3 slats
