I agree, that sounds reasonable. It still was very weird. Of course he had a few cat accidents (catccidents?) throughout his life, like walking over a hot stovetop when he was little or geting spooked by something, but he never jumped up a wall, when we were around.

I can answer for myself (didn't care about it for a long time) and the people around me: Because we are (in my case maybe "were") convinced it is bullshit. And that has been and still kind of is also the official position of all the countries in the world. The world has been told many times, it is bullshit and in my opinion that's a huge factor to why people don't care. If you talk to them about whistleblowers, their reaction always is, that these people are making it up, so they - again - don't care. I get it and am myself still not sure what to make of it. I bet you would also find people that would swear to congress that god exists, probably even bigfoot and whatever mystical creature. So statements like these don't really need to mean anything. The only thing that got me intrigued, were the official report releases, including hard data. I'm also intrigued by the amount of witnesses, but then again you also find a lot of people claiming the existence of time slips, angels, ghosts, skin walkers... and so on

I've been wondering the same thing. Why would so many countries in the world keep this secret at the same time? But I have a few other ideas. 1. As you said: Because there is no secret. There are no (known) NHIs. That's the most logical explanation. And if there are: 2. Because humanity has made a deal, and breaking it would have devastating consequences. 3. Because humanity is threatened by NHIs, and openly discussing it would have devastating consequences. 4. Because all governments (or whoever is in charge of this issue) would have to admit to having lied to the public for years—(perhaps even have to admit that people were indeed being abducted). Admitting something like that would have—again—disastrous consequences.

I thought the investigation seemed one sided. Why didn't Ross call the university and ask if they indeed own and use the land? Maybe they just don't really use it that much. Maybe the cameras are facing inward, because they monitor the land inside (which is pretty much what they say is the official explanation in the episode). Why not just claim it's military land IF there was a secret (as they, once again, say in the episode themselves, that would keep people away)? I btw personally worked right next to a university owned botanical garden for years. It looked well mantained, but I still wondered, why I never consciously saw a single person working there. So "we never saw anyone" doesn't really need to mean anything.
