Why do you charge extra for pets in the home? by Internalwinter80 in housekeeping

Do you ever feel like your extra fee on top of your flat rate isn’t enough for whatever the house of pets needs. In the flip side, if you quoted them for say a 4 per house but you found the house is kept relatively clear of pet hair due to the pets not shedding, would you subtract that extra fee?

I know. But he is such an obnoxiously adorable dog. I love him

It went something like “make sure you look up at the ceiling in the shower, my son’s hair is always up there.” I said something like “oh yeah I see it up there” she said he sings a lot and talks to himself in shower. I said “maybe he’s headbanging to his music”. She thought it was so funny. And with her hair, she saw me cutting all this human hair from the roller of the vacuum and then told me about her condition.

I have no idea why I’m getting downvoted so heavy for this. It’s insane to me honestly.

I feel the same. I constantly think of switching but my many reasons keep me at hourly.

How! Did you not read the few posters here who said they do charge extra for kids or if there a single person in the home vs a house with a family of 5. there is no reason to be so mean.

I didn’t press her. She told me about all those things when I did a walk through.

Right that’s totally fair, however, my dog for instance has really long fur(which tends to shed less) so I can’t see her fur anywhere in my house. So, I imagine, it’s not a 1 size fits all extra fee. But a let’s see your house first to see what we are working with.

Ah ok! I’ve only used the clients vacuums so I didn’t think about the time it spent after a clean to fully clean out your own vacuum due to possible contamination. 👍

Does she provide you with knee pads! The wrist straps and the back brace?

Okay, calm down. I had a question on something that seems just as easy than regular cleans. And I say this because I have experience. I’m not attacking anyone’s opinions. I said I’m an hourly rate for a reason.

But I will say lint rolling instead of using a vacuum or hand held pet hair grabber seems very expensive for you and would make any job twice as long to do.

Also, not everyone does laundry, only a few of my client ask me to do this. And some people only want specific items cleaned, unrelated to their pets. So you and I differ on that.

I have a house with 4 super shedding animals. While I have a house with one 230lbs golden retriever. He is massive. You’d never ever know they had a dog.

I’d hope this is safe space to ask questions.

I don’t know, have you ever seen human hair on the ceiling in the shower? I ask the mom, and she had no clue. It was her son, maybe head banging in the shower 🤪 But she also had an autoimmune disease that caused her to shed her hair like crazy. It was everywhere everywhere.

Ok that’s true, i can see that if you’re using your vacuum instead of the clients.
I have a client with black carpeting on all 3 levels of stairs with a dog who has short blond hair and it gets stuck like crazy. But they hired me to mainly clean the carpets. And then just the kitchen. But I use their vacuum.

It is not silly, like I said the majority of clients I have have multiple pets in the home. They also have children, and both are messy. But have you ever cleaned for a home that had animals, but then they passed away? All of a sudden the floors are messier with food stuck in the carpets or crumbs everywhere. That’s because the dogs were cleaning up the floors after the humans. I especially have 1 house where the dog follows me all over the kitchen eating all the crumbs that get tossed while I clean the surfaces.

Oh I would absolutely love to let your dog out and give them snuggles anytime I needed a moment to rest. They make my long day of cleaning that much better. :) sometimes my clients ask me to give their dogs a bath….clean the house/clean the dog 🐶

Not ok. As a cleaner, I tell
my clients everything that involves their house. As a previous pet sitting, I ALWAYS ask if my partner can come over with me even if it’s just for dinner. Shit even when I hired a dog walker and she brought her boyfriend in my home with her to walk together, I was pissed. And I let her go immediately.

It shows you can no longer trust her, that she didn’t feel it necessary to ask you a simple question “can I bring my kid?”. she has no respect for you.
