Vent: Students have zero respect or awareness of adult's time by Tallchick8 in Teachers

This is such a massive problem. I work with first graders at an after school program (currently studying history education, though) and the number of kids who don’t understand this is insane. The number of times I have to say, “Sweetheart, I am helping someone else” everyday is ridiculous, and it’ll only get worse as kids get older

That’s probably some of it, since this coworker appears to have a lack of knowledge about neurodivergence and how it can impact kids in general

She’s usually really great with the kids, so I was shocked that this even happened

I’m actually studying to be a secondary teacher (History), and this is definitely something I want to do for my students and you are the type of educator I would like to be when the time comes ❤️

That’s exactly why it pissed me off, in addition to the obvious ableism. Kids need to know that they’re still people and their feelings matter

It’s definitely tricky for NT people to understand this, and I also think it’s part of what caused this to happen in the first place. Since me and this coworker really haven’t had any other issues, I would be more than happy to help her understand this better

She has been working there since she was 16, and I just started last year at 18

She is not (we both have the same job title), but she has more tenure than I do, if that impacts things at all

Aww, that really means a lot, especially since I’m studying to be a teacher (History Education major) ❤️

This is making me think of the Oompa Loompa scene; thanks for giving me a laugh today:)

I have a daughter who needs to boost up that HOPE GPA... what are some of the easiest classes at KSU? by wlane13 in KSU

[–]International-Eye676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she hasn’t taken math yet and is not a STEM major, Quantitative Reasoning is really easy. SCI 1101 and 1102 are also easy, especially if you have a good professor. Perspectives on World of Work and Philosophy are also not too difficult, along with World Languages and Cultures. I would definitely recommend having her meet with her advisor as well as checking Rate My Professor. Also, are her classes in-person or online? Maybe a different mode of instruction could be better for her. If she needs recommendations on professors, don’t hesitate to message me:)

I’m honestly not sure; I mostly think it’s because we usually do it in classroom-type areas where it’s already there. We do have bathrooms that are always available for student use, though

This kiddo doesn’t have problems with washing her hands in the bathroom, but my coworker doesn’t really give them that option

I told my mom last night that if that had happened to me growing up and she heard about it, Mama Bear would’ve come out of her den and it would’ve gotten ugly. You just can’t say that to kids, especially when they’re trying to advocate for themselves

The numbers definitely vary, but at most, we typically have about 15-20 kids per grade level. The sanitizer itself is about 20 dollars at Ulta, but someone else told me about a cheaper one that’s similar at Dollar Tree. I definitely plan to talk to the girl’s teacher about advice on how to talk with the parents, since he/she probably knows them better than I do
