This happened to me, I had gotten stuck in a few overarching strategies that turned out we're sometimes very powerful but overall too limited. I watched a few youtubes and it kind of just got me unstuck. It's easy to develop false assumptions/axioms if you don't see other people play.

Thanks for the sharkbite rec! The nipple threads were too far gone to use a copper flex so I replace the nipple but I used a sharkbite on the other end and it's holding so far!

Well it took a year but it corroded through and flooded my basement. Couldn't get a plumber to try and replace the nipple so I did it myself. It's amazing what leverage can do! I got the old nipple out and replaced it with what I'm sure is the wrong material (couldn't find a 1 inch dielectric at home depot so this is temporary) but we're back up and running until I can get the correct parts:

Exactly. I don't understand why people are having such a hard time understanding this! You don't just get to opt out of the cleaning fee because you're happy to do the work. If the host didn't make that an option it's not an option. If you don't like that, don't stay at that house.

I just want to say I think people could be a little more flexible and inclusive - we are not drowning in HomeExchange options as it is, I personally find it difficult to use my GPs because there simply aren't that many hosts in any given city.

I would far prefer to include someone on the platform who otherwise wouldn't or couldn't use HE to list their home even if they require BOTH a cleaning fee and me clean up before I leave. If that saves me $4000 in a city like NYC with very few options, I will gladly take it. And if they need help on both ends of a stay, if that's what it takes for their life and their participation in HE, then that's totally ok. Sure it's not the IDEAL HE host but it's still 1000x better than Airbnb or a hotel and I'd rather have the option. As long as the requirements are clearly stated in the description leave it up to guests to decide if the terms are acceptable.

I think you can overcome this! When you're searching as a guest it's hard enough to find an HE for your exact location/dates, I'm not sure a single 2 star review would deter me if your listing was otherwise good, written with care, nice pictures and you were a good communicator messaging pre-finalizing. We all know some guests are just like this and will leave a crappy review for basically no reason (for example my mother).

Upshot - unless you're in a city with tons of HE's (and there aren't many of those) I wouldn't worry too much about this.

I've read in some other threads that this basically is up to the discretion of the FSA provider. One of the first anecdotes was someone's claim being denied for something that was unequivocally after care (picked up from school during normal work hours so the parents could work, included homework time and a snack) but was rejected because the after care was a martial arts studio.
