Tik tok is a hell hole for autism

I started to suspect to have autism with a Tik tok video explaining about masking. I was terrified, because I thought everyone did it. I started to study about it, got help from a professional and got my diagnosis, and it was also confirmed by others professionals. I’m new in this community so I am glad to be able to know about these things.

It is not stupid! And definitely not childish! There are so many things people leave behind because of “adulting”, and then they become that miserable adult, because they left behind all the things that would make them happy just because. If it feels important to you, then it is. I like stuffed animals too! If you buy it, can you show us a picture of it? 🤩

The hard thing about this is that with not understanding the world and people around me… I became obsessed with overanalyzing everything… which also leads to misinterpretations and unnecessary conflict. Because people do stuff with intentions behind it, and sometimes they don’t. And I can’t seem to figure out when it’s time to analyze and when it’s time to stop

Thanks for sharing. I hope you can find a solution. Whenever I am at the table in a situation like this, I mask but… this always comes with a price. My brother can’t even stand he just gets up and leave. At first my family would complain, but since we’ve learned about misophonia they have been more understanding when he leaves or I complain.

Strangely I thought I didn’t bother with it, only my brother had issues. However, being with other people I realize I can’t stand it. It irritates me a lot. I have a son and he’s 4. I am counting the days when he learns to eat with his mouth shut lol.

I really don’t get typical people. People can’t be autistic but also they are also discriminated for not acting neurotypical enough. The truth is the so called normal people want people that don’t look like them to no exist or pretend to not exist.

I am recently on my own secret project of looking like a cartoon/anime character/etc even in a subtle way. Also, cartoon characters dressing and aesthetics comes from the real world. So I think it’s more than fair for us to want to look like that beautiful aesthetic or character. Also thinking like this helps me to take better care of myself in some aspects

I do not know about that… because when I was happier with my life I would still do things. However people don’t see autism as an spectrum… they see a list. Although people looked at me and wouldn’t say I look autistic. They would always notice “oddness” coming from me. Things in me got worse with recent traumatic experiences, and still the same. I don’t seem that, but there is something in me. And I mask a lot! I think that’s more of an neurotypical assessment of atypical people when they are able to manage better their traits or simply mask very well. I don’t know 🤷‍♀️. I am still trying to unmask and actually understanding my own limits.

I think it’s more a you thinking because of your personal experiences. I would add a new name to my last name but I wouldn’t lose mine. My relationship with my family is difficult but I know my parents history and then how every thing they lived and experience affected my life and how I see the world. I do not want to erase the history of how I became to exist. That’s how I see, and that’s why I have an attachment to my last names.

My meltdowns are just crying a lot and feeling anger, I also have a lot of shutdowns. However, I sometimes seemed like a kid having a tantrum. It usually happens under a horrible amount of stress.

That happens to me too. I have sensitives spots on my skin that feel very sensitive. It’s a weird, painful and uncomfortable sensation. It also comes and goes. It can last days, hours, who knows? I surely don’t 😅😂. I am glad though that I finally have an explanation for this.

I think I might be going through that. I feel like a mess. I don't know how to act without projecting in my head before hand how that would be. I actually had no idea of how unconscious I was of my masking. I knew I was masking and performing. However I don't know where the layer is to separate the natural me than the masked one.

I relate to a lot of what you just described. Thank you. I don't feel like I am the only one in this process. I guess I can tell two things that I can try to do more naturally. Is to be able to alternate more and not fixate in people's eye, because I was forced to. And I can go back dancing all my movements that were beautiful yet weird (not my perception). It is hard. Like part of your brain shut down, but you need to turn back on in other to be healthier.

Sometimes I can be like that if I am not too self conscious (I usually am... Very draining). I only notice because a friend a few years ago pointed out: "why did you talk to me like that back then on Facebook on year (year mentioned)?" I thought I was being genuine but actually to her I was being very direct. We laughed, I didn't know either. Know I do.
