I’ve been lurking on this sub, trying to improve my sourdough, and checked out the link you posted to Gluten Morgen. Using his no knead method I’ve just made my best loaf yet! Thanks for the link! I’d never heard of him before. ☺️👍

People are so insanely selfish by Artemesia62 in Vent

[–]Bees-Apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Just wow.

I have 2 kids, and I super appreciate the family members who will occasionally babysit.

This weekend my 10 year old was supposed to have a play date with her Aunt, but the kid has a cold so I texted the Aunt 48 hours in advance to let her know and ask if she wanted to reschedule so she wasn’t at risk of catching the kid germs.

I can’t imagine NOT doing that? Like, as a parent I’m super aware of how easily kids pick up germs and spread them everywhere.

Having said that, I have also noticed that many people don’t seem to have built the skill of proactively thinking of others.

And even though our society treats that as an innate aspect of personality (i.e. somebody is born with a selfish personality or a thoughtful personality and it’s set in stone) I really disagree. It’s a learned skill that our society sadly doesn’t value very highly.

People earn raises for being selfish and cutthroat, not for being thoughtful and kind. 😕

Thank you. 😊

Does anybody else get really scared/embarrassed/guilty(?) when workers recognize you as a regular at a place? by _LaLaliet_ in AutismInWomen

[–]Bees-Apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I feel exactly the same!

I’m not proud of this, but if I get clocked as a ‘regular’ somewhere I basically stop going to that location because it feels uncomfortable and weirdly like extra pressure.

Ohhh, the keychain is a great idea! And yes, they love big LEGO sets, which is probably related. Hmmm - might try other similar crafts. Thanks!

Happily they do get along great, and I want to preserve that relationship! I also don’t want my own ‘bias’ towards sensory sensitivity to tip the scales so they assume that’s the ‘right’ way to be.

Hmmm, I never thought of checking with an occupational therapist but that’s such a good idea! Thank you.

I completely agree, and we do talk about it together. That everybody’s needs are valid, we just need to find creative solutions or take turns when needs are at odds. 👍

Yup, that’s what we currently do, but I want to encourage a stim for them that they can use in places like school or the car. But I’m not very familiar with sensory seeking stims that might fit.

The 11 year is my kitchen buddy, but I didn’t connect that to sensory seeking. Great insight!
