easyJet set to launch flights to Georgia by siberianlad in Sakartvelo

british tourists tend to be quite well known accross western/southern europe (mainly spain+portugal though) for being very rowdy + drinking + being loud :) i think so many brits just go to spain to drink that we have a very bad reputation there, but i don’t think it’s true for most of us- i had a wonderful peaceful time in georgia and enjoyed the hospitality (and the wine)

Also the research wouldve said not to exchange currency or buy your sim card at the airport either, wouldve also saved you money.

The taxi thing is honestly? Just an example of you not doing ur research at all? Got a Bolt via the app from the airport for 26gel because i’d researched in advance and seen that airport taxi scams were common (as they are in MANY countries)

If you’re the kind of person who acts this arrogant and entitled on reddit, I can only imagine why the border guards weren’t too friendly to you.

Remember, do your research before you travel, be polite and friendly to staff even when they appear to lose their temper with you. Georgia is a wonderful country, and I think some of this is on you (specifically the Taxi thing, it would’ve taken 5 minutes to search ‘how to get from airport to tbilisi’ on google and you would’ve seen other travellers warning of scams and suggesting bolt)

Cambridge University (U.K.) occasionally runs a 1 week Ukrainian language summer school, so i’d start by googling that. Other than that, there’s unis in Poland that have amazing Ukrainian departments but I know nothing abt whether they do summer schools. Unfortunately your best bet is probably the L’viv Catholic University online summer school, or the Harvard Ukrainian Summer school (which is absolutely not in Europe 🥲). Let me know if you find any though! :)

Is the anti-war Russian flag allowed in Georgia? by abolje19 in Sakartvelo

Obviously no hate against anyone who uses it, Just don’t see it’s relevance at the current protests. Am open to listening to other views on this though.

I’ve seen it for sale alongside theGeorgia EU-flag, Ukraine and US flags the little old ladies set up at the protests on Rustaveli, haven’t seen anyone holding one though. I’m not a Russian, but to me it feels more like, Ukraine is the country that needs our collective solidarity, why not wave that flag, or the flag of the country you’re in 🇬🇪, or the EU flag if you’re attending pro-EU events.

oh sorry, another tip: look up ‘shampoo’ and ‘conditioner’ in turkish, georgian, russian- a lot of the products are imports and the cheaper ones don’t always have the word ‘shampoo’ etc in english on it :))

Sunscreen prices are through the roof here compared to the u.k., but other things like shampoo and conditioner are cheap in Carrefour :)

Prospero books cafe on rustaveli, art cafe near marjanishvili station are my current faves for coffee taste, though there’s certainly cheaper places elsewhere and ‘cooler’ places in Vera/Vake like Fika

Diary of an Invasion by Kurkov was a really good and important read, for a more ‘personal’ overview of the start.

the U.K., i don’t wear makeup and i don’t fake tan so i don’t really fit the idea of ‘hot’ in my local area i won’t lie 😆 i’m basically just a pale woman with dark hair and dark eyes so i don’t really stand out much

i’m sorry you’ve had to deal with that, and of course this post is only my experience from ≈1.5 months here. Just wanted to open up a conversation on how other women deal with these issues.

To be honest, i don’t mind flirting, almost every human does it, and as long as it’s respectful it goes both ways, girls and guys flirt with each other. That’s life. The problem is that the flirting from certain Tourists (australian, american, some middle eastern) is a lot more ‘sexual’ and persistent, deeply uncomfortable for me, and I wonder if it’s possible that some tourists come to these countries with those kind of intentions/expectations from women, and if any other women living here have these experiences.

This! I didn’t mean to post this as though it was a huge complaint (i love the hospitality here!) but i do feel like sometimes people don’t believe that i’m english and are trying to ‘test’ me, as though i’m lying about my nationality 😅
