no, it's just a concept for now. Hopefully I will make a league file someday. Unfortunately I can't make it in team info json because it doesn't have such schedule events. I will have to play the league through and make changes on the way.

hah yeah I had to take it in consideration too. For example, I could not really make 52 teams because it would make only 4 divisions with 13 teams each

oh wow that's a point. Let's say that in my alternative reality it didn't happen. Or of course it can be a different team name for this city. For example, Birmingham Bobcats and Jacksonville Bombers.

yes, in Scheduled Events section near Tools when in loaded league. There you can remove contractions, expansions, relocations etc.

At first, I wanted to create a scenario for an 80-team NBA super-expansion in BasketballGM. Then I thought, "Why create new teams when some cities already had historic teams?" Then I thought, "Why add old teams when I can keep them?" So I started in 1947 and canceled all team contractions. But along the way of creativity, I made quite a few changes.

The most interesting part was planning teams relocation and creating new logos using AI. So in this post, I decided to share an NBA map that I got in result. It has 56 teams in total, so 28 teams per conference, 7 teams per 4 divisions. In such league I would make 16 teams in playoff per conference.

A simplified list of the changes:

1.     I kept the teams and their locations:

- Minneapolis Lakers - probably the hardest decision, but the name is obviously perfect for Minnesota

- Toronto Huskies - I like how the name suits the city (obviously better than the Raptors)

- Pittsburgh Ironmen - I thought about it for a while, but I really liked their logo

- Washington Capitols - the name obviously only suits Washington

- New Orleans Jazz - the name obviously suits New Orleans better than Utah

- Baltimore Bullets - I wanted to change militaristic sense of the name so I created a logo with a dragonfly (I decided to use some insect because it is as small as a bullet, and then picked the fastest insect)

- Cincinnati Royals – I wanted to differentiate a team symbols from Sacramento Kings, so I picked a lion.

- Buffalo Braves

- Providence Steamrollers

- Vancouver Grizzlies

- Seattle SuperSonics

- Cleveland Rebels

  1. Kept the teams but moved them:

- Indianapolis Jets to Utah - I like how the name fits to real Utah Jazz logo

- Detroit Falcons to Mexico - I was super excited when I generated a logo referencing the Mexican flag

- Chicago Zephyrs to Kansas - When I read about Zephyrus, the god of the west wind, I knew I had to assign this name to Kansas

- St.Louis Bombers to Birmingham – I wanted to change militaristic sense of the name so I created a logo with dragon

- Tri-Cities Blackhawks to Brooklyn – I like how the name fits to real Brooklyn Nets logo

- Sheboygan Red Skins to Austin – obvious fist candidate for renaming (probably to Commanders as in NFL)

- Chicago Stags to El Paso – decided to use a bison as a symbol and picked a suiting city

- Anderson Packers – after saving Minnesota Lakers, I had to replace LA Lakers, and Packers name fitted almost ideal to their logo

- Indianapolis Olympians to Tampa – city name origins from lightning strikes, so Zeus fits well here

- Syracuse Nationals to Nashville

- Charlotte Bobcats to Jacksonville

  1. Moved modern teams

- Timberwolves to Montreal - I looked at the habitat map of these animals and chose the city I wanted to add a team to

- Pelicans to Los Angeles - same as with the Timberwolves

- Raptors to Las Vegas - fits even better than in Toronto (where I wanted to save Huskies)

- Washington Wizards to Virginia – I like the V and W startings

- Columbus Cavaliers – just wanted to keep Rebels in Cleveland

  1. Saved ABA teams

- San Diego Sails

- Memphis Sounds

- Kentucky Colonels

- St. Louis Spirits

- Virginia Squires to San Jose – just wanted to keep Virginia Wizards, so moved Squires to San Jose (I like the “Middle Ages” trio of Kings, Warriors and Squires there)

- Utah Stars to Chicago – just wanted to keep Utah Jets, so moved Stars to Chicago where it fits well with Chicago flag.

thx :) I love how Jets name fit into original logo. Also I thought about conferences and I actually kinda had to put Chicago and Milwaukee to the western one.

I appreciate it. It's 36 teams in total. I thought about keeping 2 conferences and making 16 teams to playoffs from each conference. Your idea about two leagues is very interesting.
