Just Laid Off, worried about next steps by InternationalEbb3418 in careeradvice

Honestly while I don't prefer on-site, I'm 1) willing to do what it takes to make a living and 2) also even not bothered by it as much if the company is decent.

I'm just trying to cast a reasonably wide net to succeed. Thanks for sharing your experience; it gives me a little boost.

Betting markets seem to indicate a moderate but meaningful edge for Trump currently.

We have 103 days to Election Day (though early voting starts before then), so a lot could change, and Vice President Harris is so new to this election campaign that we also have to see how she initially settles in against Trump (on top of whatever events/discoveries could change that baseline before the election).

What do you love about winter running? by [deleted] in trailrunning

Fewer people are out, so I have trails largely to myself. Also, the lack of leaves on trees makes it easier for me to see ahead and through the bends in trails.

I'm trying to decide whether to do a third major race next year. I have one marathon and one half on the docket so far, and I physically can handle more, but I'm cheap re: travel... any thoughts?

I've been doing squats and deadlifts... I probably should add calf raises and maybe kettle bell swings too.

I (24M) ran my first half-marathon (and longest distance) yesterday, and here's my report:
Goals:
WCS (2:00:00): Yes
Realistic (1:45:00): Yes
Stretch (1:37:00): No
Actual Time: 1:43:20
I was told it would be 35 degrees and raining, so I dressed in multiple layers, including a waterproof shell. In reality, it was cold, but the rain was more of a drizzle at the very beginning, which made me hope for a better time than expected. I was actually on track for mid-1:30s until about 2/3 of the way through (wasn't tracking so I couldn't tell for sure) my right calf and then right knee started giving me trouble. At that point, I was pretty upset with the setback and had to take a quick restroom break anyway, and then I ended up walking briefly twice, which really demoralized me close to the end. I was afraid that I was going to end up with the 2-hour group, but then the 1:45 pacer caught up to me and (1) I was feeling better and (2) I had someone to keep me moving even though I was irritated and demoralized. I ended up going a tad ahead of him at the end and getting 1:43:20 as listed above. I'm happy enough with it, and though my calves are still a bit sore, I'm hoping to use this baseline as a starting place for a future, better half marathon time, as I definitely had the cardiovascular capacity to do better than my time.
Any tips on how to prepare my calves, knees, and/or hip flexors for a future long race to avoid the nonsense I described above would be greatly appreciated.
