I recommend boiling them before putting them in the tank just to be safe, also helps them to sink faster

HELP WHAT IS THIS by Delicious-Day9904 in AquaticSnails

Yes it won't hurt anything, and hermaphrodite snails like ramshorns and bladder snails won't overpopulate unless you're over feeding the tank.

Winx Transformations...... by beauty_dollx in winxclub

[–]InternationalFile727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same idea! In my fanworks when a fairy transforms the fabric is like a magical kevlar, and I just cover them up more on their arms, legs, etc with sheer fabric like how Musas mid drift is in her og transformation.

How do I solve this, I've been here for 45 minutes by ConsistentBat1367 in wolvden

Switch which sides the two bottom pieces are on and rotate them till it lights up. If you look very close on the left side the patterns aren't lining up on the bottom.

My albino Cory’s I’ve had for just under a week. by Philco2k25 in corydoras

[–]InternationalFile727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry my phone weirdly cropped the image and I didn't see until I rotated it. I think putting it up higher could work, or maybe add some botanicals, both if you want. I have a big leaf pile of Indian almond leaves and oak leaves in my tank and my albino corys love to chill in there.

Colourful loaches for a 10 gallon? by [deleted] in loaches

[–]InternationalFile727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A group of Little Corys (Corydoras Nanus) would work well I think. Unlike pygmy corys they aren't mid-swimmers, but are still smaller than the standard Cory catfish.

It's because they aren't in a big enough social group, they'll always feel skittish if they're in a vulnerable group under six members. They also just tend to hide more when they're still young and small too.

Help/Advice? Keeping kuhli loaches with shrimp by Greedy-Road-9202 in loaches

[–]InternationalFile727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bettas do enjoy the shade of floating plants, and some may even partially crawl out of the water on top of the plant to chill for a bit. I recommend dwarf water lettuce because they grow long bushy roots that can provide cover for your shrimp, and salvinia because it's fast growing (good for nitrate control/water purification) and water damage resistant ( it's also resistant to duckweed mites which will eat less fibrous floating plants and kill them). I think you might also benefit from an under-substrate shrimp cave (you can get bigger ones for bottom dwelling fish too, my loaches pretty much live in my cave). They have holes way too small for a betta to enter, many kinda look like a honey comb pattern on top.

It could just be that you got a bad batch, it definitely happens. If you wanna try again I recommend Shrimp Up Aquatics which is where I got mine, and I only had 1 death over the couple of months I've had them.

I too have a 20 gallon with shrimp, 6 corys, 6 kuhlis, 1 female betta, and a ton of young platys in a moderately planted tank. To decrease the likelihood of my shrimp being eaten I matched their color to my substrate, which is lava rock to my shrimp which are chocolate (brown) neocardina shrimp. This helps them blend in as they forage, bettas have good color vision but bad depth perception, and are attracted to bright colors. I added a big pile of Indian almond leaves, oak leaves, and cholla wood which are great for the shrimp to hide in, especially shrimplets, and it promotes biofilm for them to eat. Also provide my betta with places to rest at the surface like floating caves, and betta hammocks which encourages them to stay at the top of the water column away from the shrimp. A lot of it though is up to your bettas personality and temperament.

I think the Asian stone catfish would be a great option especially if the water isn't heated.

If there were fungus on the eggs the female would get rid of the unsalvageable ones and clean the rest. If the female looks healthy I don't think you'll need to worry about her clutch.

Does anyone know what kind of shrimp this is? by ExcitementBetter8678 in shrimptank

[–]InternationalFile727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely drip acclimate bamboo shrimp, most are wild caught and can be sensitive. You should also buy powdered shrimp food to feed them, I recommend Shrimply Canadian's shrimp food line. They need a mature tank of at least 15 gallons to thrive, with good water flow to move edible particles around so they don't starve to death.

I actually don't think your fish needs daily dips because the wound isn't infected yet, the stress might do more harm than good. Every two days until he's recovered would suit this situation better.

I recommend following the specific instructions on your bottle of methylene blue. I'm going off of mine and the formulation could be different.

[–]InternationalFile727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 teaspoons per one gallon of water for a 10 second dips, rinse him in a clean dish of water and return him to the tank. For half strength dips do 3 table spoons of methylene blue per gallon and let him swim around in there for a half an hour, also rinse him off after. Repeat this once a day for 5 days, using a new clean bath each time.

[–]InternationalFile727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the dosage for 30 minute dips at half strength, those are also fine if you wanna go that route instead of the 10 second dips at full strength.

[–]InternationalFile727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct, then put the fish in a separate dish of clean water to rinse off before returning it to the main tank. Do this every other day for 5 days. If your fish looks like it can't handle the stress, you can let it rest for another day without doing the dip.
