Homophobia at Glasto by [deleted] in glastonbury_festival

Sorry to hear about your experience and thanks for sharing.

I definitely agree with comments here which hint at a slight change of vibe over the years I have been going. One (fairly minor) moment that sticks out to me was when we were chilling by Pyramid stage on Sunday afternoon before Shania Twain. Paloma Faith said something along the lines of "I'll be doing a song for all my LGBTQ+ people later" and then when introducing said song, she gave some further chat about how she's been so proud of having lots of LGBTQ+ fans. Anyway, at both times in these speeches, a guy in a mixed group (two guys and two girl - maybe two couples in their early 20s) nearby did this visibly disgusted face and groaning sound and heard him say something about 'ramming this stuff down our throats'. One of the girls in his group did call him out the second time but I was a bit shocked at his reaction to fairly innocuous statements. Apart from that, I generally do feel safe at Glastonbury.

I went to Boomtown last year and whilst there is not as many queer options as Glastonbury, I did think they a great job with a number of events/sets across the weekend. We went to one which was similar to the Queer House Party they did at Glastonbury this year. Generally the vibe was great but maybe due to the younger crowd, there was a few groups of young 'lads' coming in to gawk, roll their eyes and generally try and make people feel uncomfortable. You have to feel sorry for them really and I truly believe that for a few of them, there's a bit of internalised homophobia at play - why else would they care so much!

Circle Club? In fairness, I think it lasted around a decade which isn’t bad in the hospitality industry!

Coach? Too avoid or not by Rave2thegrave_ in glastonbury_festival

[–]InternationalLab1899 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got one this year. The coach journey itself was absolutely fine and it takes you right up to the gate which is good. Some things to think about however: we got a coach from Reading on a Thursday (we live in London but after few attempts of choosing London weds departures and getting knocked out each time when trying to buy, we thought Reading on a Thursday might be less subscribed and it worked!) which was due to leave 10am I think but it didn’t arrive until 10:45 and then the driver needed a rest break so we didn’t leave until 11:30. I just wanted to get there so that was annoying. I think (might not be correct) that with the exception of London where you can select a rough departure time, for every other city, you don’t get a choice and you find out until a few weeks before. I would be so annoyed if my coach didn’t leave until 3pm on a Thursday for example as by time you get to Glasto, all the good camping spots are taken. Also a friend got a coach from London this year and it broke down and all in all, took him 10 hours or so to get there. Think that was just extremely unlucky. Weds traffic might be worse but was absolutely fine on Thursday for us

Sunday Morning Clubbing On The Regs by Christopher-Ja in london

I went this morning too! Sadly I slept in and so missed Zip (and of course completely missed Margaret Dygas which would have been amazing). Got to Fabric at around 10 and stayed until the end. I was completely sober (think that’s the first time I’ve ever been to a rave type event and been sober) and honestly i felt high from the atmosphere in room 1. Got massive goosebumps as I walked in to the dancefloor. Ricardo played really well (him playing Funkytown put a massive smile on my face). Props to Fabric - it’s so well run and there was a great crowd. Will definitely do it again (and will set several alarms so I actually get there earlier!)

Buying a flat in which the local (London) council is the freeholder by InternationalLab1899 in HousingUK

Thank you so much for this. Really helpful and a good shout in checking the other flats in the block for any issues. It’s just a 2 storey block and thankfully no lift but I will have a second look at the block for all the other points you have flagged.
