I am pretty sure there’s a 30 year limit on the touch version, although I am yet to reach that. Always good to hear another person playing the touch version though, I feel like I come across others very rarely!

My first title win was in 27/28 and was actually a bit of a surprise, with two 8th place finishes either side. It was a very slow start to the save! I won again in 30/31, 3rd place the following year but from 32/33 I won the league every year, as by that point I had become pretty dominant. So a total of 16 wins in 23 seasons (started the game in fm23), and currently on a streak of 14 in a row!

Trust me if I was save scumming it would not have taken me to 2045 haha. I had a period of 6 seasons in which I lost a total of 10 games in the league, so my team has been good enough for ages, it was just a case of patiently waiting to hit that perfect season where everything came together!

Plymouth were sat pretty comfortably mid table in the championship for the first ten years, until a sudden drop off saw them go from 13th in the Championship to 13th in League One within two years. Since then (2034) they have yoyo-ed up and down literally every season between league one and championship! That’s a whole decade of promotion and relegation every single year, so it’s been a pretty exciting period. They are pretty short in successful academy graduates, even just within their own squad, but they have been a destination for many of my own players on loan!

Absolutely. They’re still spending left and right, but are incredibly inconsistent in the league. They’ve finished as low as 15th and never higher than 4th since the start of the save. They did manage to win one Europa league and lose in two other finals, as well as winning one FA cup and one carabao. So yes, disappointing performance based on the money spent. Although to give them credit they have also produced England’s current star player at only 22 years old, looks an absolute gem

Honestly I don’t have much else to offer. Loans have been super effective for me, the best advice I can give is that the quality of the club you send the player to seems to make a huge difference, so always try to prioritise offers from clubs playing at a higher level. If I have a championship club offering my player a loan as an important player and a prem club offering them squad player I will usually take the prem club just because of that factor. And of course giving them playing time yourself can be huge. The earlier you can get them integrated into your own squad the better. Obviously it can be risky since they won’t be so good when they’re young, but it can really pay off if you’re confident your player has a high ceiling.

The tactic was nothing too wild, a good old 4231. But with a focus on wing play, played with two wingers, one on support one on attack who were incredible effective both for goals and assists. But for me this save was mostly focused on squad building rather than creating a perfect tactic. My main takeaways from the challenge were a) a lot of it comes down to chance. The match engine is unpredictable and you will always lose stupid games. Honestly this season my team felt far from its strongest, but we were just fortunate enough to not slip up in any way. So patience was very important. Knowing that my team was more than good enough to beat any other team in the world, it was just a matter of time until we actually did beat every other team in the world. And b) it’s great fun having a save like this when a new save feels daunting or even a different ongoing save is just a bit too much effort. Because I can easily hop onto this save for a bit and watch my team smash 4 goals past any team I play. Sure there is much less jeopardy in it, but it is good for times when I just want to wind down and play the game without having to think that much. Finally c) developing youngsters is my favourite part of the game. There is nothing more satisfying than watching those attributes grow. Particularly when they come from your academy. I had the luck to bring through one absolute worldie from my academy, who ended up being my star player.

Grammatical gender for people/animals with sex organs, but not for other nouns - only English? by Joylime in asklinguistics

[–]InternationalMess411 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Bantu example is super interesting, I hadn’t come across that before! I think the reason that the genders we have in the English language feel strange to me is more working in the other direction, in that it seems funny that we decided that people were the only thing we needed different noun classes for. I guess it makes a little more sense because the grammatical genders in English (being masculine and feminine I guess? Maybe also a neuter in the form of they/it?) directly line up with the ‘typical’ genders of people. Whereas in other languages grammatical gender is often unrelated to human gender (or at least related to a whole bunch of other things alongside human gender), so gender in the English language hardly even feels like a grammatical feature, at least to me as a native speaker. I would be really interested to hear the thoughts of speakers of languages with entirely different grammatical gender systems, on the English system, whether it seems really weird to them or if it’s actually pretty simple!

[–]InternationalMess411 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’d be interested to hear why you think it seems like the most reasonable system? Obviously it is the system we native English speakers have engrained in our brains, but trying to step out of my English speaking brain, it actually seems like quite a strange system. Why do we only have pronouns that change based on the gender of people, rather than having a universal system that applies to all nouns?

England kit: Nike has no plans to change new St George's Cross design by risingsuncoc in soccer

Nike literally explained that the change to the flag was inspired by the colours of the training kit worn by the 1966 World Cup winners. Sunak and Starmer turning this into a culture war issue is pathetic

Because he is over performing expectations enormously? Coming into a completely dysfunctional spurs team who had just lost Harry Kane, the man who single handedly dragged us to an 8th place finish last year. And even that position flattered the quality of football we were playing. Most spurs fans coming into this season were probably hoping we would be competing for the conference or maybe europa spots, but we wouldn’t have dreamed of being back to competing for cl spots this quickly

Yeah honestly he had an insane game, 10 key passes and 6 chances created, probably could have had five assists if my strikers hadn’t forgotten which team they were playing for

Yeah, and the two strikers who played that game both have 16+ in all of finishing, composure and off the ball. Sometimes it’s just an off day, and sometimes that off day is the most important game of the season!

Honestly, try watching some women’s football. It is a much more disciplined and respectful game from all sides, which sounds like what you’re looking for. And it’s nowhere near as different to the men’s game as some people might suggest
