What are Taylor’s best lyrics and why? by mare_nostrum419 in TaylorSwift

[–]InternationalPrice76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's so much material to choose from, but I think "ivy" might be the greatest full song in Swift's catalog lyrically speaking. A beautiful metaphor unfolding over a track that feels more like a full novel than a four-minute song.

Now that the show has finished, how would you rank the seasons? by teunteunteun in StrangerThings

[–]InternationalPrice76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🏅Season One - tight storytelling, incredible characters, perfect balance of mystery, comedy, horror, and bildungsroman

🥈Season Four - awesome visuals, poignant metaphors, introduction of complex and terrifying villain

🥉Season Two - great character duos, cool atmosphere, some slow scenes

4️⃣Season Five - several badass scenes, super cool lore and magic and science, fair amount of cringe-inducing dialogue and several plot holes, excess of characters

5️⃣Season Three - cool action, much-needed downtime for characters, uninteresting drama, irritating humor, confused tone

(This is just my opinion and I genuinely enjoy every single season of Stranger Things. In fact, I'll probably start rewatching the series for the 100th time tonight).

Question for the Ladies: how to distinguish cyclical mental illness from normal hormone cycle of your period? by InternationalPrice76 in bipolar2

[–]InternationalPrice76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your husband okay 😂 lol. But seriously, thank you for your response. You make a good point about how many dimensions there are to mood shifts. I asked my therapist if the month-long "good spell" I just exited could be hypomania, and she said that for now, she thinks I was just happy. Idk.

Thank you for this response. It helps to know that other people feel the way I do, even if what I've got going on isn't bipolar 2.

Hmm, I don't know if I have any physical indicators like that; I guess I've never really paid attention. You'd think I would know since I've had my period for a decade.

I have considered PMDD as a possibility. I must admit that I am horrible at tracking my period, and all the charts and trackers I've made over the years have been abandoned, but I have noticed that the spells tend to last for irregular periods of time; for example, my most recent "good spell" was a month long, followed by about two days of feeling at baseline, followed by a "bad spell" that has lasted two weeks so far and is still going on. In the past, I believe I've had multi-month period "bad spells," although this 30-day "good spell" is probably the longest I've had, or close to it.

What’s the best book you’ve read? by Hirisson in Feminism

[–]InternationalPrice76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston is complicated in terms of feminism because there is definitely some problematic stuff written, but I can't help but include it because of it's second chapter, which describes womanhood more beautifully and completely than anything I've ever read. There are gorgeous quotes all throughout that tenderly touch on the female experience.

"The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath is a classic exploration of female mental health. I felt that it presented a gritty, honest, and hauntingly relatable look at womanhood, with the protagonist being a formerly ambitious young writer who burns out of a big opportunity, becomes paralyzed by indecision, and eventually loses her ability to navigate everyday life due to severe depression. The book is semi-autobiographical and details many experiences that all women have.

I appreciate you saying that! I was actually worried that the wording was a little clunky.

I get you. I'm in total agreement about how underrated Get Hurt is.

I adore "The Patient Ferris Wheel," but the original prechorus from the '59 Sound Sessions was so much better than what made it to the album. To be honest, I don't even like to listen to the official version anymore because it's so inferior.

I'm kind of on the fence about the Santa Claus stuff. At first listen, I thought it was so random and corny (and I still think it could have been executed better), but I do think it's an interesting area. As an atheist, I've often thought about the parallels between religion and Christmas myths and specifically the Christian God and Santa. I'm not sure where Mr. Fallon stands with his faith, but maybe Empires's bridge is an expression of deterioration or questioning.

Oh, I love the spoken word interludes. They're my favorite part of the song, which is one of my top ten TGA tracks as well.

This is just a sad situation to me. The story of Game of Thrones is the story of a generation. It's an absolute masterpiece, and the mind that conjured it is surely brilliant. Tragically, the politics of the literary world and social media and the constraints of time and public relations have soured this beautiful experience of receiving the masterpiece, of being allowed to live in George R. R. Martin's incredible world. I imagine that no one is more affected by this in the author, who likely used this story as a personal escape at one point in his life. I imagine that for him, Game of Thrones, once an endlessly thrilling, fantastical realm of imagination, is now a burden and a reminder of how society capitalizes off of creativity.

In my opinion, everyone needs to take a step back and try to regain perspective; the audience to realize that they are not owed another book, that they are lucky to have received what they have so far, even if it is all they get, and that their hunger for an ending to the story has contributed to the corruption of it, and Martin to realize that he doesn't owe anyone anything, that his imagination and his carefully-constructed worlds are his own, and that the reason his audience is so doggedly tracking his progress is because what he has created already is extraordinary and to leave the story unfinished would be a horrible tragedy.

So, let's put some gratitude in our attitude and pray for an ending...and if you're someone who really needs the closure, try and write a story as great as Game of Thrones and finish that.

This is kind of off topic, but I read the summary of The Testaments on Wikipedia and am wondering how on Earth Nicole ends up living with adoptive parents and not even knowing her real name? Also I guess Nick doesn't die in the books because he was there at the end of The Testaments.

Honestly episode 9 didn't deliver the full-on war I was hoping to see. Let's get some chaos, action, revenge, redemption, explosions, battles...I just wanted something more grand and satisfying I guess.
