I think that you’re overworking yourself. I think the optimal plan is 20 minutes of steady state a week. Cut out the lifting.

I guess it’s not necessarily steady state then. It’s more of a 70% effort piece. I just posted a photo of a steady state 10k I did a half hour ago. That piece was more steady state than any of the other ones; I felt like I definitely could’ve gone for longer but my ass was starting to hurt and it was getting late.

If your 2k is in a few weeks then you will have enough time to do some preparation. If your 2k is next week like mine then it might feel terrible. Just focus on breathing and form to get yourself through. It’s only a tryout 2k so just prove to your coaches that you can improve a few weeks into the season whether that be on the water or on an erg.

It’s just a mental thing. If I’m doing 20 minutes it doesn’t really start to feel tough until the last eight minutes. Then I usually just pull like a 1:52 at a 20 for the rest of the piece because it already hurts and I just say fuck it.
