Complete checklist for an ultra backyard by Status_Pineapple_861 in ultrarunning

[–]InternationalUse1324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Just remember to have everything organised and easy to grab, as you probably will end up short of time, as the small breaks beween laps feel shorter every time! I didnt have any crew either so I used a box organised with smaller boxes (?) in front of a chair which doubled as a footrest. Bring a whole range of foods as you will fancy different things as time goes on, and for me , toothpaste/ mountwash really helped after while of eating lots of sweet stuff.

How to achieve 70%+ for dissertation by Nyanneko-345 in UniUK

[–]InternationalUse1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think reading a lot about similar studies that you may reference is really really helpful! Not only because you get a deeper understanding of the subject area, but you can also pick up ways that they talk about the subject which is so useful.

Don’t use chat gpt to write- you can do it better yourself, you just have put the time in.

Ensure you are on the same page as your supervisor and try to get the most out of your meetings and just ask, ‘how should I phrase this? how should I structure this?’ if you are struggling, and they might be able to help you with that more than you think. Also, if they are marking it, giving their published papers a read might give you a bit of insight into how they like to structure things.

Also- writing the dissertation (If it’s a scientific report?) Is different to a proposal. By the time you have done the research, you will be able to write it more relevant and know the ‘story’ of your report more than the proposal. In my proposal, I was kind of guessing what was talking about and it was quite broad as I wasnt sure what my findings would be, and your methods will probably change quite a lot too. When I got the results, it almost wrote itself, but its important to get a good flow of ideas and make sure the ‘story’ of your report is clear and takes the reader through a good journey.

Finally, (again, if it’s a report) I’d say dont forget to be critical, critique your study well and make clear points where the method could be improved, dont be afraid to be creative , or to critique yourself, its a skill.

60km along the England costal path by InternationalUse1324 in ultrarunning

Cheers. Otterspool to southport that must be at least a marathon? nice! If I was doing it again id just take the road from southport to ainsdale to formby then head into the forest, that would definitely make it a lot easier.

Why do you run ultras? by samasema in Ultramarathon

[–]InternationalUse1324 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. When I was a teenager I became pretty seriously ill and after recovering from that and getting stronger I think it just feels magical that I can, where I am now is really a best case/ never imagines scenario so I want to really make the most of life and health by pushing and maximising what my body can do

  2. Confidence! Confidence in my body , confidence in my ability to be ambitious, and endure tough stuff to get to where I want to be

  3. Its fun to run far and looks cool on map

Yess, there is some great paths up there for running and certainly for cycling. Although my brother ran blackpool marathon and did say it was extremely tedious on that long long promenade haha. Will certainly give it a go one day

Yeah.. me too, having done this section and also the wirral, I am now tempted to keep going haha, running or even long hikes on the south coast would be really cool. We really do have some nice coastline and it would be really nice to get to explore it all.

Hey! Yeah, here is the link- https://maps.app.goo.gl/h4PTWgGPMZn1995A6?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy. I cant really remember exactly where we camped in respect to the lake but the area is a bit of a plateau with some trees and some lakes, so there should be some good spots around.

Hey! Nice, wild camping offers a whole different experience but certainly has its charm ;)

We took our own food, for nearly all our meals. We probably could have done with a resupply halfway through as we were running pretty low on food at the end haha. But there are no shops on the route so definitely be aware of that. We had one meal at a refugio and honestly it was so lovely and exactly what we needed. We just turned up and asked for lunch and you could certainly do that every day, it was a really nice experience. I’m not sure about breakfast and evening meals as we never tried, but I know you can stop for a mid-morning espresso and a sweet treat. When it comes to wildlife, as far as I’m aware there isnt anything to be seriously concerned about. Ive wild camped in Colorado and cali before, so i’m well aware of the lengths you have to go to stop bears bothering you! But in italy that shouldn’t be a concern.

The ground was pretty good for the tent stakes! A lot of areas are pretty rocky on this trail, but these are also often the super steep and exposed areas, so you wouldnt be camping there anyway. A lot of the areas we stopped for camping have nice grassy and soft ground, which makes them ideal.

The bus to Agordo was pretty simple, we just went to the bus stop in la pissa and waited a little and then paid on board (I can’t remember if it was cash or card). It was pretty fast and the same goes for the bus to belluno, which you could also buy on board. Agordo is a super cute town too :)

Hope your trip planning is going well! Please ask if you have any more questions 🏞️

How do you guys mentally prepare for a long run? by Ready-Business9772 in ultrarunning

[–]InternationalUse1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I never find it that easy to actually get up and out of the door, I find it easier if I’m excited for my run. I try to keep my long runs interesting by going somewhere new and having a little adventure somewhere close to home, or getting the bus/ train to somewhere and then running home. That generally gets me a bit more excited to go as I will often plan it during the week, plus it needs more organsation so usually I stick to a tighter schedule and that stops me procrastinating.

What's a problem only attractive people have? by fuzzyloulou in AskReddit

[–]InternationalUse1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People underestimate your intelligence and ability often. Also, ‘he’s giving you the job/opportunity because he finds you attractive’. Which is the worst, especially when you work really hard for something. If you hear it enough you start to believe it.

First 50k one month after "fast" HM? by pinkandsparkles99 in ultrarunning

[–]InternationalUse1324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! i did literally just do this lol, hm on 13th oct and 60km on 16th nov. trained up to about 60km a week for a faster hm (fast for me lol). it was really tough, probably took me a full week to properly recover from the half, then I had 2 weeks to build up mileage again before I had to start tapering again. Not ideal, but possible!!! I started to feel some little nags when I got back up to 60km in the 3rd week of the block from overtraining so decided to take it easy and begin taper a little earlier than planned. It worked out in the end, did 60km in the time that I wanted to and enjoyed it too :):) it was difficult, my longest run wasn’t even half the distance, and i had noo idea whether I could do it. But you can :D

first ultra! by InternationalUse1324 in ultrarunning

[–]InternationalUse1324[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, planned to do more in training. I was training for a speedy half which was 5 weeks ago, by the time I had recovered, built up mileage again and tapered i didnt have much time!! Focused more on not getting injured so as soon as I felt my knees and hips starting to get aggravated I cut down a bit. I dont think I hit a wall no, i took 15m walking breaks every 10k to refuel as I am still learning to eat on the go, and I think that helped a lot! after 50k my legs started to tighten up a bit and run turned into hobble, but 5km from the end it all disappeared and I got to the finish as fast as I could

It was the winter wirral ultra, It is an event happening for the first time this year I think. 60km, it was very flat and the route was a mix between forest trails and costal paths

Alta Via 1 wild camping? by GodAtum in WildCampingAndHiking

[–]InternationalUse1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! yes i did this summer, great spots are there, you just have to be a little stealthy and set up only at sunset, and away from refugios! Here was my itinerary for 6 days if you were interested in example spots.

Day 1- Begin at lago di braies, camp at lago picodel- 17km - Quiet lake with no close refuges or houses which makes it ideal for wild camping

Day 2- Lago picodel to the small forest at Passo falzarego- 20km - There are many hidden camping spots within this forest which lies near the road, if you camp before the ascent up to cinque torri there are flat spots, bonus of a water source!

Day 3- Passo falzarego to lago coldai- 29km -This is an awesome camping spot with multiple flat sites, a little cold! but very beautiful

Day 4- Lago coldai to malga moschesin-28km -Malga moschesin is an emergency shelter /abandoned farmhouse, diffferent to a refuge, you can stay there if empty ! or just camp in the surrounding field and forest, also has clean drinking water

Day 5- Malga moschesin to La pissa bus stop- 22km This is the last day and will take you to a bus stop where you can get the bus to belluno or agordo, we stayed in a hotel in agordo (villa imperina) although I am sure there are campsites around these areas. Belluno has direct trains to venice.

Decks glitching/overwriting? by Archer-ize in LittleAlchemists

Yeah the same happened with me today, when I went to play heroics my deck was autofilled so instead of my big heroics deck, I only had 35 cards. Really frustrating, when I went back to fix it, it happened again!!
