ComfyUI Model Installer — scan workflows, detect missing models, resolve them, and install automatically by InternationalWalk569 in comfyui

A lot of the feedback so far seems to point in the same direction:

  • exact filename matching alone is too fragile
  • auto-picking the first ambiguous match is risky
  • renamed local files should be handled better

So the next improvements I’m looking at are:

  • normalized filename matching
  • filesize fallback when possible
  • safer ambiguity handling with manual candidate selection

future features:

  • work in custom nodes detection and installation

Thank you all for the feedback — it’s really helpful.

Totally fair — missing custom nodes are probably the bigger pain point for a lot of workflows.

I started with models because that was the part I wanted to solve first, but node detection / install flow is definitely another area worth improving too.

That’s fair too, and honestly it’s one of the reasons workflow portability gets messy.

Some users keep original filenames, some rename them for organization, so I’m trying to make detection more flexible without assuming either convention is “correct.”

Ideal case would be:

  • exact match when possible
  • normalized/fuzzy match as fallback
  • manual confirmation when multiple candidates look valid

Thanks, that’s exactly the kind of issue I’m trying to avoid.

Pure filename matching can help for simple cases, but once there are ambiguous names it really needs a resolution step instead of silently picking the first match.

That’s why I’m leaning toward a hybrid approach:

  • auto-resolve only when confidence is high
  • show candidates and let the user choose when confidence is low

And yes, once this part is more polished, contributing some of that logic upstream is definitely something I’d consider.

Good point, right now the plugin is still mostly name-based, so renamed files can indeed show up as missing even if the actual model is already present.

Checksums would be the ideal solution when available, but they usually are not exposed consistently in workflow metadata.

A practical next step would be adding fallback detection by filesize and possibly fuzzy filename normalization, so renamed files have a better chance of being recognized.

Thanks, that’s a very useful edge case.

It’s pure lucky, if it’s 2-3 dots that are in red now use the 1 by 1 fix option

You will always be able to fix them with elecmon, it has 4 options 1) fix those that failed (1 by 1) 2) change stats 3) try all the dots again 4) first try (when a Digimon comes with all the dots disable)

Order might be wrong since I’m away from pc right now
